Bahrain hosts inaugural International Space Forum; IAF President commits to backing Kingdom’s space aspirations

The 6th International Space Forum at Ministerial Level held in Bahrain marked a significant milestone for the region’s growing space industry. Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi shared his perspective from the International Space Station, emphasizing the importance of space exploration and technology development for sustaining life on Earth. He encouraged young minds to pursue careers in the field. The President of the International Astronautical Federation, Clay Mowry, expressed optimism about the forum’s potential to turn space dreams into reality, highlighting the accessibility of space as a new frontier.

The forum also focused on education and regional cooperation, with Dr. Mohamed Ebrahim AlAseeri stressing the importance of educating the youth in the region about space science. He envisioned Bahrain establishing a center dedicated to analyzing space data. The event showcased the ambitious space programs of the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with Salem Al Marri outlining the UAE’s focus on international collaboration and Saudi Arabia’s plans to launch the world’s first space station orbiting the Moon. The forum was inaugurated by Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Mohamed bin Thamer AlKaabi, and addressed by the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi.

The forum brought together regional ministers, astronauts, and industry experts for a stimulating exchange of ideas, highlighting the importance of space exploration and fostering collaboration in the Gulf region’s space industry. This event marked a pivotal moment for the region’s space sector, showcasing the potential for growth and development in the field.
