Travis Head and Marcus Stoinis were the heroes for Australia as they defeated Scotland in a thrilling Group B match at the T20 World Cup. Chasing Scotland’s 180 for five, Australia reached the target with two balls to spare thanks to Head’s 68 and Stoinis’ 59. Tim David’s unbeaten 24 finished off the job as Australia secured a five-wicket win. The victory also ensured England’s qualification for the Super Eights stage of the competition.

Scotland’s Brandon McMullen top-scored with 60, but despite his aggressive batting, they were unable to post a total in excess of 200. Skipper Richie Berrington’s unbeaten 42 was not enough as Scotland fell short in the end. Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa were the pick of the Australian bowlers, with Maxwell taking two for 44. Australia’s fielding, usually a strong suit, suffered as they put down six chances during the match.

Stoinis, named the ‘Man of the Match’, revealed that the plan was for him and Head to build a strong partnership and take the game deep. Despite some hiccups, the duo successfully guided Australia to victory. Skipper Mitchell Marsh emphasized the importance of staying consistent and sticking to their game plan throughout the match. The win saw Australia maintain a perfect record in the group stage of the tournament.

The result also marked the end of Scotland’s campaign at the T20 World Cup, as England progressed to the next round on the basis of a better net run rate. Australia’s dominant performance showcased their strength in the competition and their ability to handle pressure situations. With the Super Eights phase on the horizon, Australia will be looking to build on their success and continue their winning momentum in the tournament.
