India’s Ravichandran Ashwin was a standout performer in the first Test against Bangladesh, claiming six wickets in the second innings after scoring a century in the first. He played a crucial role in India’s 280-run victory over Bangladesh. The tourists, who were chasing 515 for victory, were bowled out for 234 in the first session on day four. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto top-scored with 82 runs but was unable to prevent his team’s defeat.

Ravichandran Ashwin removed Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz early on day four to put India in a commanding position. His performance with both bat and ball was instrumental in India’s success in the first Test. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja also played a key role, taking three wickets in the second innings. The spin duo had earlier contributed significantly with the bat in the first innings, guiding India to a challenging total after a shaky start.

India’s batting also shone in the first Test, with centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant in the second innings setting the stage for a declaration at 287-4. The partnership between Gill and Pant was crucial in putting India in a dominant position. Virat Kohli, playing his first Test since becoming a father for the second time, had a relatively quiet outing with scores of six and 17.

The Indian bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah, were on top form in the first Test, bundling out Bangladesh for 149 in their first innings. This early advantage set the tone for India’s comprehensive victory. With this win, India further solidified their position at the top of the World Test Championship rankings. The two teams will now move to Kanpur for the second Test, where Bangladesh will be looking to bounce back from their defeat in Chennai.

Bangladesh, who had recently secured a historic series win in Pakistan, were unable to carry that momentum into the Test series against India. The visitors have never beaten India in Tests, and will be aiming to change that in the upcoming matches. The second Test in Kanpur presents an opportunity for Bangladesh to regroup and put up a stronger performance against the formidable Indian team. With the series finely poised, cricket fans can expect an exciting contest between the two sides.
