Ashghal, the Public Works Authority in Doha, Qatar, has received international recognition for its commitment to safety and worker welfare. The Roads Projects Department of Ashghal has won 10 International Safety Awards from the British Safety Council for various projects under the Local Areas Infrastructure Programme in 2024. This marks the fifth consecutive year that the department has been recognized for its efforts in maintaining high safety standards in construction projects.

The winning projects include infrastructure works in various areas such as Umm Slal Ali, Umm Ebairiya Village, and Al Kheesa North and East. These projects have been praised for their adherence to health and safety regulations, as well as their efforts to provide a safe working environment for employees. The Roads Projects Department’s Health, Safety, and Workers’ Welfare team has also been commended for their role in ensuring the safety of workers on site.

Eng. Saoud Al-Tamimi, the Roads Projects Department Manager at Ashghal, emphasized the Authority’s commitment to safety as a core aspect of its project implementation strategy. He highlighted that safety is a fundamental pillar of their work and a culture that they strive to promote and adhere to. The International Safety Awards, now in its 66th year, recognize organizations worldwide for their efforts in preventing work-related injuries and illnesses, as well as promoting well-being and mental health in the workplace.

The Roads Projects Department’s Health, Safety, and Workers’ Welfare Team were awarded the International Safety Award with Merit for their dedication to implementing effective occupational health and safety management systems. Their approach includes identifying and managing risks proactively, providing training programs, and involving all employees in health and safety practices. The team’s efforts have been crucial in maintaining high safety standards on construction sites.

Several projects under the Local Areas Infrastructure Programme received International Safety Awards with distinction for their outstanding safety records. Projects such as the Umm Slal Mohammed Roads and Infrastructure Project and the Abu Samra Border Crossing Project have been recognized for achieving millions of man-hours without accidents. These projects not only emphasize safety but also focus on enhancing infrastructure services in the region.

Other projects such as the Construction of Remaining Works in the Doha Industrial Area and Road Improvement Works in Western Areas have been praised for their commitment to safety and high standards of health and welfare for workers. These projects play a vital role in enhancing the infrastructure services and connectivity of various areas in Doha. The Al Kheesa North and East Roads and Infrastructure Project and the Al Wajba East Roads and Infrastructure Project have also been recognized for their contributions to improving internal streets networks and providing advanced street lighting systems.

Overall, the recognition received by the Roads Projects Department of Ashghal reflects the Authority’s dedication to prioritizing safety and welfare in all its projects. By maintaining high standards of health and safety for workers and implementing effective management systems, Ashghal continues to set a benchmark for safety in construction projects in Qatar. The International Safety Awards serve as a testament to the Authority’s commitment to continuous progress and the well-being of its employees.
