Doha, Qatar – The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced a 15-day Rawdat Al Ghezlaniya Street closure commencing on Friday, January 30, 2026. The closure, impacting traffic in the South of Al Wukair area, will be in effect until February 13, 2026, and is intended to facilitate essential maintenance work. Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes during this period to avoid disruption.

The affected section of Rawdat Al Ghezlaniya Street will be fully closed to traffic, starting at midnight on January 30th. Ashghal stated the closure is necessary for the execution of critical upgrades as part of the ongoing Roads & Infrastructure project within the South of Al Wukair region. This area has seen significant residential and commercial development in recent years, increasing the need for robust infrastructure.

Understanding the Rawdat Al Ghezlaniya Street Closure and Diversion Routes

The maintenance work on Rawdat Al Ghezlaniya Street is reportedly focused on improving road conditions and enhancing the overall infrastructure capacity of the area. Specific details regarding the nature of the maintenance were not provided by Ashghal, but typically include repairs to the road surface, drainage improvements, and potential utility work. This proactive approach aims to prevent more disruptive, emergency repairs in the future.

Detour Information for Commuters

Ashghal has outlined a specific diversion route for drivers heading east on the closed portion of Rawdat Al Ghezlaniya Street. To continue their journey, motorists are directed to utilize Street No. 1035.

From Street No. 1035, drivers will need to execute a U-turn using the interconnected network of Streets 1326, 1327, and 1329. This maneuver will eventually lead them onto Jeryan Al Sahm Street, enabling them to reach their intended destinations. Ashghal has shared a map detailing this route, which is available on their official channels.

The Roads & Infrastructure project in South of Al Wukair is a large-scale undertaking designed to support the growing population and economic activity in the region. This includes not only roads but also improvements to local drainage systems and public lighting. The project reflects Qatar’s commitment to sustainable and efficient infrastructure development in preparation for future growth.

Traffic management teams will be deployed to assist drivers during the road closure and ensure a smooth transition to the designated detour routes. Signage will be prominently displayed to guide motorists and minimize confusion. However, drivers are still encouraged to exercise caution and allow for extra travel time.

Residents and businesses in the vicinity of Rawdat Al Ghezlaniya Street have been notified of the closure. Ashghal routinely issues such notices prior to planned roadworks to allow the public to adjust their travel plans accordingly. It’s anticipated that this maintenance will improve traffic flow once completed, although temporary congestion is likely during the closure period.

The broader Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is responsible for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of all infrastructure projects within Qatar. Their work is pivotal to supporting the nation’s economic diversification and increasing quality of life. Recent reports indicate a continued focus on delivering projects ahead of major events.

Following the completion of the maintenance work on February 13th, 2026, Ashghal will reopen Rawdat Al Ghezlaniya Street. The timeframe for reopening is subject to any unforeseen challenges encountered during the project. Motorists should continue to monitor Ashghal’s official channels for updates relating to the project’s progress and any potential extensions to the closure. Further phases of the South of Al Wukair Roads & Infrastructure project are anticipated, which may necessitate additional, future traffic diversions.
