The Web Summit held in Lisbon showcased more than 3,000 companies from various countries, displaying advanced technology such as AI and robotics. The majority of companies present were focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is predicted to have a market volume of around €780bn by 2030. Start-ups in the AI sector are working on solutions to pressing issues like deforestation in Brazil. WoodChat, an AI system, helps in identifying lumber types and filling out forestry documents via WhatsApp, ensuring that wood exports are certified and legal.

Another start-up, Tryp, aims to make travel more affordable for people, offering flight packages for as low as 66 euros per person. With access to a database of 70 million flights, trains, and buses, the software creates real-time combinations to offer the most cost-effective options to users. This innovative approach to travel planning is revolutionizing the industry and making it easier for people to explore the world without breaking the bank.

In terms of mobility solutions, the Web Summit also featured a hybrid model between a multicopter and an aeroplane, which aims to transport people and goods in a faster and less pollutant way. Powered by Infineon’s chips and semiconductors, this futuristic concept could soon become a reality within the next decade. The event highlighted the potential for technology to reshape air travel and make it more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Robotics was another key focus at the Web Summit, with companies showcasing innovative robots like Stella. Stella is a self-assembly kit with 3D-printed components that are durable and easy to repair. Each robot can carry up to five kilos of cargo and serves an educational purpose by stimulating creativity and teaching students about robotics. However, the rise of robotics and AI also raises concerns about job displacement, as these technologies have the potential to automate tasks traditionally done by humans.

Overall, the Web Summit demonstrated the immense potential of advanced technologies like AI, robotics, and sustainable mobility solutions to address complex challenges and revolutionize various industries. While these technologies offer numerous benefits in terms of efficiency and innovation, there is a need to carefully consider the potential drawbacks, such as job displacement, and work towards achieving a balance between the advantages and challenges posed by these technologies. As we look towards the future, it is important to continue exploring the possibilities offered by technology and harnessing its power for positive societal impact.
