Doha, Qatar – The 2026 Arabian Drag Racing League commenced today at the Qatar Racing Club (QRC), promising a thrilling season of speed and competition. The championship, held under the patronage of QRC Chairman H.E. Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Thani, will span six rounds and feature both established racing legends and emerging talent. Testing began yesterday, with qualifying scheduled for today and tomorrow, leading to tandem races on Friday and culminating in the crowning of champions on February 13.
The event draws competitors and fans from around the globe to Qatar, solidifying the country’s position as a hub for motorsports in the Middle East. The QRC’s purpose-built facility is renowned for its track conditions and has previously hosted numerous record-breaking performances across various racing categories.
Elevated Competition at the Arabian Drag Racing League
QRC Director General Sheikh Jabor bin Khalid Al Thani stated the club has implemented several enhancements to increase the level of competition this year. These improvements follow successful earlier events, including three rounds each of the Qatar Drift Championship and Qatar Drag Racing Championship, and the conclusion of the third round of the Qatar Freestyle Championship.
One significant addition to the 2026 season is the return of the Pro Mod category. This category will showcase elite drivers, including J.R. Gray, the 2025 NHRA Championship titleholder, and veteran champion Mike Castellana, both representing Qatar’s Al-Anabi Team. Both drivers have extensive experience competing in US championships.
New Categories and Increased Prize Money
Responding to competitor feedback, the Street Bike category has been added, expanding the motorcycle racing options to two. Organizers are prepared to introduce the Pro Bike category – the most powerful class in motorcycle drag racing – if at least six competitors register. This demonstrates a commitment to adapting to the needs of the racing community.
The total prize money for the championship approaches QR3.5 million, with approximately QR485,000 allocated per round. The Pro Mod category offers the largest individual prizes, awarding QR50,000 to the winner of each round, QR25,000 to the runner-up, and QR12,500 for third place. Should the Pro Bike category be approved, the prize pool per round will increase to approximately QR530,000.
Additionally, the QRC will host the 13th edition of the Qatar Custom Show alongside the championship’s second round, featuring over 150 companies specializing in automobiles and related industries. This event aims to broaden the appeal of the motorsport weekend and attract a wider audience.
Sheikh Jabor affirmed that the Arabian Drag Racing League remains a top priority for club management, citing its high participation rates and intense competition. He emphasized the focus on providing a supportive environment for all participating teams and enhancing the overall fan experience with entertainment areas for children and families.
The QRC has invested in enhancing accompanying activities and events to attract motorsport fans. This includes dedicated entertainment areas for children and families, aiming to create a more inclusive and enjoyable experience for all attendees. The event is expected to draw significant crowds, boosting tourism and showcasing Qatar’s capabilities in hosting world-class sporting events. The popularity of motorsport in the region continues to grow, driving demand for events like this.
The championship will continue with qualifying rounds tomorrow, setting the stage for the competitive tandem races on Friday. The final results and overall standings will be determined after the sixth and final round. The addition of new categories and increased prize money suggest a continued effort to attract top-tier talent and elevate the profile of the Arabian Drag Racing League. Future developments will depend on competitor participation and ongoing assessments of the event’s success.
