An Indian Expat’s 35-Year Journey of Creativity and Contribution in Oman

Ramachandran Nair has been a constant presence in Oman for 35 years, beginning his journey in the Sultanate in 1990 after relocating from Mumbai. His career took him across the country, from Salalah to Muscat, where he joined GAC Oman in 2001. Nair played a pivotal role in establishing the company’s Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environment functions, eventually becoming the QHSSE & Compliance Manager in 2011. Despite his demanding professional life, Nair pursued his creative passions, writing thousands of articles for various media outlets and producing short films and a musical album. His work has been recognized with awards, including the Media City Awards for best script and concept in 2022.

Nair’s writing career was marked by his insightful contributions to various media outlets, where he shared his observations on culture, society, and personal experiences. His work as a playwright includes short films that aired on satellite channels and YouTube, addressing themes such as aging parents, adoption, and changing social habits and relationships during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, he released a musical album featuring playback singer K.S. Chithra, earning him the best lyrics award from the Kozhikode Film Society. Nair’s artistic endeavors have consistently been praised for their creativity and ability to engage with current events in a thoughtful and meaningful way.

In addition to his creative pursuits, Nair made significant contributions to GAC Oman’s learning and development initiatives as a certified facilitator for the GAC Corporate Academy. He played a key role in training and mentoring employees in various topics such as leadership, HSSE, and time management. Nair’s passion for learning and development earned him the title of ‘Best GLO’ globally on five occasions, highlighting his dedication to fostering growth and knowledge within the organization. As he prepares to leave Oman in September 2024, Nair reflects on his time in the country with a sense of fulfillment, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, leadership, and deep connections with the people and places he encountered.

Despite the demands of his professional life, Nair never let his creative passions take a backseat, continuing to produce impactful work across various mediums. His ability to engage with diverse topics and audiences through his writing, films, and music reflects his versatile and talented approach to storytelling. Whether addressing personal experiences, societal issues, or global events like the COVID-19 pandemic, Nair’s work has consistently resonated with audiences, earning him awards and recognition for his contribution to the arts and media in Oman and beyond. As he prepares to depart from Oman, Nair leaves behind a rich tapestry of creativity that will continue to inspire and resonate with the communities he has touched.

In his 35-year career in Oman, Ramachandran Nair has left a lasting impact on the country through his work in media, creative pursuits, and leadership within GAC Oman.
