Amir’s European Tour Sparks New Connections with Sweden, Norway, and Finland

Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s recent European tour, which included visits to Sweden, Norway, and Finland, has marked a new chapter in the longstanding relationship between Qatar and these three countries. The Amir’s tour aimed to enhance cooperation, develop bilateral relations, and focus on sustainable development goals and innovation in strategic sectors. Deputy Chairman of the Qatari Businessmen Association, H E Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Thani Al-Thani, highlighted the importance of the Amir’s tour in opening up investment opportunities for the private sector in Sweden, Norway, and Finland. He emphasized the significance of diversifying markets with Northern European countries, particularly in technology sectors where European companies are already active in Qatar. The visit is seen as a timely effort to deepen bilateral cooperation following important preparatory visits by Qatari delegations.

The economic relations between Qatar and Sweden, Norway, and Finland have seen significant growth in recent years, with major companies from these countries investing in Qatar. Investments have exceeded USD 11 billion, particularly in sectors like energy and aluminum. The aim is to expand cooperation in maritime technology, ICT, green economy, tourism, and healthcare, among others, creating projects of substantial value for all involved parties.

Professor of Contemporary Politics and History of the Middle East at Qatar University, Dr. Mahjoob Zweiri, emphasized the strategic importance of the Amir’s visit to Sweden, Norway, and Finland in strengthening cooperation and promoting regional peace and stability. The visit aligns with the efforts of these countries in peace-building, conflict resolution, and supporting human rights issues, particularly in conflict areas. The tour is expected to enhance economic, cultural, educational, and academic cooperation, opening new avenues for development in various sectors.

The economic data shows a considerable increase in trade between Qatar and Sweden, Norway, and Finland in recent years, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthen political, economic, and cultural ties amid global challenges. Trade volumes have seen significant growth, with Swedish companies operating in the Qatari market across various sectors.
