Amir set to be warmly welcomed as global leader of diplomacy during visit to Italy, says Italian Ambassador

The State Visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Italy is set to strengthen the relationship between Qatar and Italy, according to Ambassador Paolo Toschi. In an interview with QNA, the Ambassador expressed his excitement about the visit and the potential for increased cooperation between the two countries in various fields. He praised Qatar’s mediation efforts for a ceasefire in Gaza and highlighted the joint humanitarian efforts to assist civilians affected by the war in Gaza.

Ambassador Toschi emphasized the importance of upholding international law, providing humanitarian assistance, and seeking peaceful resolutions to conflicts. He shared his concerns about the situation in Lebanon, where Italy is actively engaged in the UNIFIL mission and working as G7 President to achieve a ceasefire. The Ambassador stressed the importance of protecting civilians under all circumstances and expressed his commitment to providing aid to those in need, particularly in Gaza.

On the economic front, Toschi highlighted the two pillars of economic collaboration between Italy and Qatar. The first pillar involves mutual direct investments, with Italian companies utilizing Doha as a regional hub and Qatari investments spanning various sectors in Italy. The second pillar focuses on joint initiatives in third markets of strategic importance, such as Africa. The Ambassador mentioned the “Mattei Plan” launched by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, which aims to promote productive investments in Africa through bilateral cooperation and involvement of multilateral institutions.

Italy and Qatar are working together to create sustainable and profitable projects in Africa that benefit local communities, empower them, and share technology. The collaboration between the two countries extends beyond bilateral relations and involves partnerships with institutions like the African Development Bank and the World Bank. The Ambassador expressed his dedication to supporting African development through joint efforts with Qatar and emphasized the importance of investing in projects that have a positive impact on the region.
