The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in Muscat has issued a heavy rainfall alert for several regions in Oman, effective from Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 4:00 AM until Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 4:00 AM. This alert comes as a result of anticipated heavy thunderstorms expected to gradually develop from Monday evening and persist through Wednesday due to the effects of a tropical system. The affected areas include the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, and Dhofar, extending to parts of Muscat, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Dakhiliyah, South Al Batinah, North Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, and Al Buraimi. Rainfall amounts are predicted to range between 30-80 mm, with strong downdrafts, hail, and a high potential for flash floods in wadis (valleys).

The CAA advises residents to avoid crossing wadis, stay clear of low-lying areas, and refrain from sailing during the alert period to ensure their safety. There are additional warnings included in the alert, such as heavy thunderstorms with hail expected to bring 30-80 mm of rainfall, potentially causing flash floods. Strong winds with speeds of 28-64 km/h (15-35 knots) are also forecasted due to downdrafts, and sea conditions may worsen with wave heights along most of the Oman Sea coast expected to rise between 1.5 and 3 meters. Visibility may also be significantly reduced during thunderstorms, making it important for residents to be cautious and prepared for potential challenges.

The alert also mentioned that updates will be provided in 24 hours if necessary, and citizens are urged to stay informed and follow safety precautions to minimize risks during this period of heavy rainfall. It is crucial for individuals to pay close attention to any updates and instructions from authorities to ensure their safety and well-being. By taking necessary precautions and being aware of the potential dangers associated with heavy rainfall, residents can better protect themselves and their property from any potential risks that may arise during this time.

The CAA’s efforts to issue this alert demonstrate their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in Oman during periods of severe weather. By providing timely warnings and guidance, they are helping to minimize the impact of natural disasters and helping residents prepare for any potential challenges that may arise. It is essential for individuals to heed these warnings and take proactive measures to stay safe and secure during heavy rainfall periods to avoid any potential harm or damage to themselves and their communities.

In conclusion, the heavy rainfall alert issued by the CAA in Muscat highlights the importance of being prepared and cautious during times of severe weather. By following safety guidelines, avoiding risky behaviors, and staying informed, residents can protect themselves and their families from the potential dangers associated with heavy thunderstorms, flash floods, and strong winds. It is crucial for individuals to take these warnings seriously and to prioritize their well-being by taking necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of heavy rainfall in Oman.
