Asian women’s football is reaching a new milestone with the launch of the preliminary rounds for the first-ever AFC Women’s Champions League. The Asian Football Confederation is taking steps to develop women’s football across the continent, and the women’s team of Al-Nassr Club will represent Saudi Arabia in this historic tournament. A total of 13 clubs will compete in the preliminary rounds, with the top team from each group advancing to the group stage. The preliminary matches will be held at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh, with the top-tier competition expected to deliver exciting and competitive games.

The preliminary round matches will be played in a centralized format, with a single round-robin league taking place from August 25 to 31. The top team from each of the four groups will qualify to join the eight clubs that have already secured a spot in the group stage. This inaugural edition of the AFC Women’s Champions League promises to showcase the talent and skills of women’s football teams from across Asia. With teams from countries like Myanmar, Laos, and the UAE participating for the first time at the continental level, the competition is set to be fierce and exciting.

Al-Nassr, the two-time Saudi Women’s League champions, will host Myanmar’s Myawady in the opening match of Group A. Myawady, who had an unbeaten run in 2023 to claim their first Myanmar Women’s Football League title since 2018, will be looking to make an impact in their debut at the continental level. The tournament also marks a significant milestone for Abu Dhabi Club, the first-ever professional women’s team in the UAE and the 2023-2024 UAE Women’s League champions, as they face Laos’s Young Elephants in a bid to secure a spot in the group stage.

The tournament brings together teams from diverse backgrounds and experiences, with clubs like Iran’s Bam Khatoon and Uzbekistan’s Nasaf competing alongside teams from Myanmar, Laos, the UAE, and other countries in the preliminary rounds. The competition format ensures that the top teams from each group in the preliminary round will have the opportunity to advance to the group stage, where they will face tougher challenges and stronger opponents. The draw for the group stage has already been determined, with teams from India, Jordan, Singapore, Malaysia, Nepal, Iran, Hong Kong, Bhutan, China, South Korea, Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, and Taiwan set to participate.

The AFC Women’s Champions League is set to showcase the best of women’s football in Asia, with teams competing for the prestigious trophy and the title of continental champions. The tournament provides a platform for women’s football to grow and develop across the continent, as the AFC continues to invest in the future of the sport. With the support of fans, sponsors, and stakeholders, the AFC Women’s Champions League is poised to become a highlight in the Asian football calendar, celebrating the skill, talent, and dedication of women athletes in the region. The excitement is building as the tournament kicks off, and fans can look forward to thrilling matches and unforgettable moments on the field.
