Mohammed bin Saad Al Mughaiseeb has been re-elected as president of the Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) for a term extending until 2028. During the General Assembly meeting held at the Federation’s headquarters, Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari was appointed as Secretary-General, and Ahmed Youssef Mohammed Mubarak Al Darwish as Assistant Secretary-General. Additionally, Abdullah Sultan Al Jaber, Abdulrahman Hamad Mohammed Al Manea, Mishaal Abdullah Youssef Al Maliki, and Ahmed Youssef Mohammed Mubarak Al Darwish were elected as members of the Board of Directors.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Qatar Olympic Committee, including Ishaq Al Hashemi, who confirmed the meeting’s validity due to the required quorum being met by the nine clubs. Al Mughaiseeb emphasized the importance of communication with Qatari clubs to enhance the game and raise the level of local competitions. He highlighted ongoing efforts to achieve the Federation’s goals and enrich both local and international competitions.

Among the topics discussed at the meeting were the upcoming strategy and the national teams’ plans in preparation for the 2027 World Cup, which will be hosted by Qatar for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa region. Al Mughaiseeb expressed gratitude for the support provided by Qatar Olympic Committee President H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, Secretary-General Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain, and QBF’s Honorary President Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, recognizing the significant impact of their support in facing upcoming challenges.

The President stated that the Federation is responsible for preparing both the 5×5 and 3×3 national teams to compete strongly in regional and international tournaments. Additionally, plans are being developed to host the 2027 World Cup, with a focus on utilizing indoor halls to serve the tournament and stimulate sports tourism in Qatar. The aim is also to spread the game of basketball among young people and promote its growth within the country.

Overall, the re-election of Mohammed bin Saad Al Mughaiseeb as president of the QBF signals a commitment to continuing the development of basketball in Qatar. With a strong team of officials and support from the Qatar Olympic Committee, the Federation is focused on achieving its goals, including preparing for the 2027 World Cup. These efforts aim to enhance local competitions, strengthen national teams, and promote basketball as a popular sport among the youth in Qatar.
