The Sultanate of Oman is witnessing significant industrial growth, underscored by the recent inauguration of the Al Ghaith Chemical Industries Complex in Sur Industrial City. This landmark project, representing a substantial investment exceeding USD 125 million, signals a commitment to diversifying the Omani economy and fostering a robust manufacturing sector. The complex is poised to become a cornerstone of the nation’s chemical industry, supporting vital sectors and creating valuable employment opportunities for Omani citizens.

A Major Boost for Oman’s Chemical Industry in Sur

The opening of the Al Ghaith Chemical Industries Complex marks a pivotal moment for Sur Industrial City and the wider region of South Al Sharqiyah Governorate. As the largest private industrial investment within the city, spanning 200,000 square meters, it’s a testament to the attractiveness of Oman as an investment destination. The inauguration ceremony, attended by key government officials including Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, Qais Mohammed Al Yousef, and Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, Sheikh Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidi, highlights the national importance placed on this development.

This complex isn’t just about size; it’s about specialization. It focuses on producing chemical materials crucial for the supply chains of Oman’s key industries, particularly oil and gas and broader manufacturing. This strategic focus directly addresses the need for local self-sufficiency and reduces reliance on imports, bolstering the nation’s economic resilience.

Enhancing Local Added Value and Employment

Eng. Nasser bin Hamoud Al Mabsali, Director General of Sur Industrial City, emphasized the complex’s role in enhancing Local Added Value. By producing specialized chemicals domestically, Oman can capture more of the economic benefits within its borders. This translates to increased revenue, a stronger industrial base, and greater control over critical supply chains.

Furthermore, the project is a significant driver of employment. Al Ghaith Chemical Industries Factory already provides over 100 job opportunities in its initial phase, with plans to exceed 175 Omani employees as expansions are completed. Beyond direct employment, the complex will stimulate growth in related industries, creating further opportunities for skilled Omani workers. The project also prioritizes knowledge transfer, ensuring that Omani employees are equipped with the expertise needed to operate and maintain this advanced facility.

Sur Industrial City: A Hub for Diversified Investment

Sur Industrial City is rapidly evolving into a diversified industrial hub, attracting investments across a range of sectors. Currently, the total investment volume within the city exceeds RO 2.3 billion, demonstrating strong investor confidence in Oman’s economic prospects and the city’s well-developed infrastructure.

Key sectors driving this growth include petrochemicals, food industries, and logistics services. However, the city is also actively pursuing opportunities in emerging fields like energy and oil derivatives. This diversification strategy is crucial for mitigating risk and ensuring long-term sustainable growth.

Future Development and Infrastructure Plans

Recognizing the potential for further expansion, Sur Industrial City is undergoing a comprehensive replanning process to accommodate new investment opportunities. A significant element of this plan is the development of a state-of-the-art shipbuilding and maintenance facility. The detailed designs for the required infrastructure are already underway, promising to unlock investment in the maritime sector and associated businesses.

Additionally, the city is actively promoting investment in the mining and logistics sectors, offering attractive incentives and streamlined processes to encourage businesses to establish operations. These initiatives are designed to capitalize on Oman’s strategic location and abundant natural resources. The focus on industrial investment is clearly paying dividends.

Al Ghaith’s Vision and Alignment with Oman’s 2040 Goals

Fahad Issa Al Salhi, Manager of Al Ghaith Chemical Industries Factory (Oman Branch), highlighted the company’s commitment to safety, sustainability, and industrial integration. The complex was built to the highest international standards, reflecting a dedication to responsible manufacturing practices. The partnership between Al Ghaith, a leading UAE-based industrial company, and Oman exemplifies the growing regional collaboration and economic synergy.

The project’s ambitions extend beyond the domestic market. Al Ghaith plans to leverage the complex’s production capacity to target regional and global markets with high-quality chemical products. This export-oriented strategy will contribute to Oman’s foreign exchange earnings and enhance its reputation as a reliable supplier of specialized chemicals.

Eng. Khalid bin Salim Al Qasabi, Director General of Industry at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, underscored the complex’s alignment with Oman’s strategic industrial goals for 2040 and the Future Industries Initiative. The Oman Vision 2040 prioritizes the development of a knowledge-based economy driven by innovation and technology. This complex, with its high-tech processes and focus on advanced materials, is a concrete step towards realizing that vision. It’s a move towards the domestication of chemical industries and reducing reliance on external sources.

In conclusion, the Al Ghaith Chemical Industries Complex in Sur Industrial City represents a significant achievement for Oman’s industrial sector. It’s a powerful demonstration of the nation’s commitment to economic diversification, local content development, and attracting foreign investment. With its focus on high-quality production, sustainable practices, and a skilled Omani workforce, the complex is well-positioned to contribute to Oman’s long-term economic prosperity and solidify its position as a key player in the regional chemical industry. Investors and stakeholders are encouraged to explore the numerous opportunities available within Sur Industrial City and contribute to Oman’s exciting industrial future.
