Al-Futtaim BYD KSA officially launched the BYD ATTO 8 at the Riyadh Motor Show, introducing the brand’s first 7-seater sport utility vehicle (SUV) to the Saudi Arabian market. The new vehicle aims to redefine family transportation with its blend of luxury, advanced technology, and hybrid power. This launch signals a continued push towards electric vehicle (EV) adoption in the Kingdom, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030’s sustainability objectives.
The unveiling took place December 9-13 at the Riyadh Motor Show, offering attendees a first look at the ATTO 8 and the opportunity to schedule test drives at the Al-Futtaim BYD KSA stand. The ATTO 8 is positioned as a premium option for Saudi families seeking spaciousness and modern features in a new vehicle. Al-Futtaim BYD KSA intends to expand its NEV (New Energy Vehicle) portfolio further in the region.
Introducing the BYD ATTO 8 to Saudi Arabia
The BYD ATTO 8 is engineered to address the specific needs of families in Saudi Arabia, offering a combination of comfort, technology, and versatility. Its large size – exceeding 5 meters in length with a 2,950mm wheelbase – provides ample room for seven adults across three rows. Jerome Saigot, Managing Director of Al-Futtaim BYD KSA, stated the vehicle is designed to “elevate every family journey.”
Hybrid Technology and Performance
BYD’s ATTO 8 utilizes the company’s 5th-generation DM Super Hybrid technology, available in two configurations. The DM-i variant prioritizes fuel efficiency, achieving a WLTC range of up to 728 kilometers. Meanwhile, the DM-p version focuses on performance, delivering a combined 480 HP and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, featuring an intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system.
Interior Comfort and Features
The interior of the ATTO 8 is designed for a luxurious experience. It boasts 11-layer leather seats with massage functions and 14-way power adjustment for the front passengers. Seat ventilation in the first two rows addresses the challenges of Saudi Arabia’s hot climate. Additionally, the vehicle includes a 21-speaker DiSound audio system and customizable 128-color ambient lighting.
Beyond comfort, the ATTO 8 offers practical features for family life, including a “camping bed” configuration for extended trips and a spacious interior for cargo. Modern conveniences such as flush door handles, an electric tailgate, and a Head-Up Display further enhance the driving experience. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are integrated for seamless smartphone connectivity, and the BYD App provides remote control over 40 vehicle functions.
Safety and Structural Integrity
Safety is a key component of the ATTO 8’s design. The vehicle incorporates 11 airbags and BYD’s Cell to Body (CTB) structure, which integrates the Blade Battery directly into the frame for increased strength. A sophisticated suspension system, combining a double-wishbone front and five-link rear setup, aims to deliver a comfortable ride and precise handling. The Intelligent Chassis DiSus-C system adapts to road conditions for enhanced stability.
The launch of the ATTO 8 is part of a broader trend of increasing EV availability in Saudi Arabia, driven by government initiatives and consumer demand for sustainable transportation options. José Miranda, Director of Marketing and Communications of BYD Americas, Europe, Middle East, and Africa, highlighted the importance of space for families and how the ATTO 8 delivers on that need alongside advanced technology.
BYD currently has over 120,000 engineers dedicated to research and development, with a focus on creating useful technology for customers. The company emphasizes that super-hybrid technology is a crucial step in the transition to greater electromobility, offering extended range – up to 700 kilometers with the ATTO 8 – while still providing the convenience of a traditional powertrain.
Looking ahead, BYD KSA plans to continue expanding its range of new energy vehicles in Saudi Arabia. The success of the ATTO 8 will likely influence the pace of future model introductions and the company’s overall investment in the Kingdom’s automotive sector. Further details regarding sales figures and market response are expected in the coming months.
