The Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, visited the Qatari delegation’s headquarters at the ongoing Islamic Solidarity Games in the Athletes’ Village on Sunday, boosting the morale of Qatari athletes competing in the Islamic Solidarity Games. The visit underscored Qatar’s commitment to supporting its athletes on the international stage.
During his visit, Al Buenain met with Qatari athletes, encouraging them to deliver their best performances, thereby reflecting Qatar’s growing stature in the global sports arena. He was accompanied by Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani, Director of the Sports Sector at the QOC.
Qatar’s Participation in the Islamic Solidarity Games
Eighty-two Qatari athletes are currently competing across 16 sports at the Games, including athletics, duathlon, 3×3 basketball, karate, equestrian, wrestling, volleyball, handball, taekwondo, table tennis, judo, weightlifting, camel racing, swimming, fencing, and para-athletics. The Qatari delegation is residing in the Athletes’ Village, where they are receiving support from the QOC and other stakeholders.
Al Buenain toured the delegation’s building, reviewing the workflow and administrative procedures in place. He praised the efforts of the Qatari management team for ensuring the smooth participation of Qatari athletes in the sixth edition of the Games.
Qatar’s Performance in Previous Islamic Solidarity Games
Qatar has a distinguished record at the Islamic Solidarity Games, with its medal tally beginning in Makkah 2005. The country’s success continued in subsequent editions, including Palembang 2013 and Baku 2017. In Konya 2022, Qatar maintained its medal count while increasing its gold medals to four. According to the QOC, Qatar’s overall medal count at the Games now stands at 30, comprising 8 gold, 8 silver, and 14 bronze medals.
