Royal Patronage and the Preservation of Omani Heritage

The Al Bashayer Camel Racing Festival isn’t merely a sporting event; it’s a testament to Oman’s deep-rooted connection to its past. His Highness Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, has emphasized the unwavering support of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for the festival. This support stems from His Majesty’s profound appreciation for camel racing as a vital component of Omani heritage, passed down through generations.

His Highness highlighted that His Majesty’s dedication extends to the preservation of the esteemed Omani breed of purebred camels. These camels are renowned for their performance and continue to excel in competitions both within Oman and internationally. The Royal directives to safeguard this heritage are viewed with immense trust and gratitude by experts and enthusiasts alike.

Supporting National Racing Initiatives

The Al Bashayer Camel Racing Festival operates in close collaboration with and provides support to the races organized by the Royal Camel Corps and the Oman Camel Racing Federation. This synergy ensures a cohesive and thriving national camel racing scene, fostering growth and development at all levels. The festival serves as a crucial platform for showcasing the skills of Omani camel owners and trainers, and for promoting the sport to a wider audience.

A Sporting, Social, and Economic Hub

Beyond the adrenaline-pumping races, the Al Bashayer Camel Racing Festival is designed to be a multifaceted gathering. His Highness Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tarik Al Said described it as a significant sporting, social, and economic event. It brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds and governorates within Oman, as well as participants from across the GCC countries.

The festival’s importance lies in its ability to not only preserve Omani heritage but also to cultivate a sense of camaraderie and harmony among different segments of society. The land of Al Bashayer becomes a focal point for shared passion and cultural exchange, strengthening social bonds and promoting national unity. This aspect of the festival is deeply valued and actively encouraged by the organizing committee.

Continuous Development and Modernization

The organizing committee is committed to continually enhancing the Al Bashayer Camel Racing Festival, ensuring it remains a world-class event. Plans are underway to increase the prize money offered, expand the scale of participation, and diversify the range of race rounds. These improvements are aimed at attracting even more top-tier competitors and elevating the overall quality of the racing.

Furthermore, significant investment is being directed towards the modernization and development of the Al Bashayer Camel Racetrack itself. The goal is to create a facility that is among the best in the world, providing optimal comfort and convenience for both camel owners and their animals. This includes ensuring state-of-the-art veterinary care, comfortable resting areas, and efficient logistical support.

Prioritizing Safety and Security

The safety and security of all participants – both human and animal – are paramount concerns for the organizing committee. Comprehensive measures are being implemented to guarantee a secure environment from the moment of entry onto the racetrack until the conclusion of each race. These measures include enhanced security personnel, advanced surveillance systems, and strict adherence to animal welfare protocols. The festival aims to provide a thrilling spectacle while upholding the highest standards of safety and ethical treatment.

Looking Ahead to the 2026 Festival

The 9th Annual Al Bashayer Camel Racing Festival promises to be an unforgettable experience, celebrating the enduring legacy of camel racing in Oman. With the continued support of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and the dedication of the organizing committee, the festival is poised to reach new heights in 2026. The event will not only showcase the athleticism of these magnificent animals but also the rich cultural traditions that define the Sultanate of Oman. Keep an eye on the Oman Camel Racing Federation’s website for updates on registration, schedules, and accompanying events as the festival date approaches. This is an event that truly embodies the spirit of Omani hospitality and sporting excellence, and is a must-see for anyone interested in experiencing a unique and captivating cultural tradition. The festival is also expected to boost local tourism and provide economic opportunities for the Wilayat of Adam and the A’Dakhiliyah Governorate.
