Qatar’s Nasser Al Attiyah and his co-driver Edouard Boulanger continued their dominance in the Rallye du Maroc as they secured a second-place finish in Stage 2, extending their overall lead in the 25th edition of the event. Despite finishing behind Lucas Moraes of Toyota Gazoo Racing by just 13 seconds in the 267-kilometer special stage, Al Attiyah now holds an 8’22” lead over Guillaume de Mévius of X-raid Mini JCW in the general standings. Moraes’ victory in Stage 2 propelled him to third place overall, behind Al Attiyah and de Mévius.

As a two-time world champion, Al Attiyah is focused on clinching his eighth FIA World Rally-Raid title and currently leads the Championship standings by a comfortable 20-point margin over Yazeed Al Rajhi, also from Toyota. Despite starting the day just 1’39” behind Al Attiyah, Al Rajhi’s 10th place finish in Stage 2 has dropped him to sixth place overall, trailing behind other competitors. In the Challenger category, Khalifa Al Attiyah and Abdulaziz Al Kuwari of Qatar finished sixth and 14th, respectively, in yesterday’s stage, showcasing their competitive spirit in the rally.

The upcoming special stage will span a distance of 325 kilometers, starting from Zagora and concluding at Mengoub. This challenging leg of the Rallye du Maroc will test the skills and endurance of the participants as they navigate through varied terrains and obstacles. With Al Attiyah and his team holding a commanding lead, the pressure is on for the other competitors to catch up and narrow the gap in the final stages of the event. The rally serves as the final leg of the 2024 FIA World Rally-Raid Championship, making it a crucial battleground for drivers vying for the prestigious title.

Qatar’s Nasser Al Attiyah has solidified his position as a frontrunner in the Rallye du Maroc, showcasing his exceptional driving skills and strategic navigation alongside co-driver Edouard Boulanger. With an impressive performance in Stage 2, Al Attiyah has widened his lead in the general standings, putting him in a favorable position to secure his eighth FIA World Rally-Raid title. The competitive landscape of the rally has seen shifts in positions, with contenders like Lucas Moraes and Guillaume de Mévius moving up in the standings, setting the stage for intense battles in the remaining stages of the event.

Despite facing stiff competition from fellow drivers like Yazeed Al Rajhi, Al Attiyah has maintained his composure and consistency, executing his race tactics with precision and determination. As the Championship leader by a significant margin, Al Attiyah is focused on maintaining his momentum and strategy to secure victory in the Rallye du Maroc and solidify his legacy as one of the top rally drivers in the world. The upcoming stages will present new challenges and obstacles for all participants, testing their resilience and skills in navigating the rugged terrain of the Moroccan desert.
