Afghanistan to host South Africa for three ODIs in Sharjah

Afghanistan will host South Africa in a bilateral series in September, marking the first time the two teams will face each other in a series. The series will consist of three one-day internationals to be played in the United Arab Emirates at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. This comes after Afghanistan’s one-off Test match against New Zealand, scheduled for Greater Noida, India from Sept. 9-13.

ACB chairman Mirwais Ashraf expressed positivity about the recent ICC meeting, where the dates for the one-off Test match against New Zealand were confirmed, and an agreement was reached with Cricket South Africa for the ODI series. He emphasized the excitement of hosting such an excellent team and the prospect of regular matches in the future.

Afghanistan and South Africa have previously met in two ODIs during the World Cups in 2019 and 2023. Additionally, they have faced each other three times in T20 World Cups, with South Africa emerging victorious on all occasions, including the semi-finals of the most recent edition in 2023. Cricket South Africa chief Lawson Naidoo expressed eagerness for the historic ODI series with Afghanistan, highlighting their competitiveness and recent performances.

This series marks a significant milestone in the cricketing relations between the two nations and is expected to be a competitive and entertaining event. Afghanistan has proven to be a competitive all-round team, and with this series, they aim to continue showcasing their abilities on the international stage.
