The Minister of Foreign Affairs in Afghanistan, HE Amir Khan Muttaqi, extended his gratitude to the State of Qatar for their ongoing assistance to the Afghan people in various areas. He specifically praised the efforts of the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in providing aid to communities in need across the country. During a meeting with Dr. Mohamed Salah Ibrahim, the Director of Relief and International Development at QRCS, HE Muttaqi emphasized the importance of projects targeting urgent medical needs, such as heart disease in children, as well as aiding forced returnees from neighboring countries. These initiatives are crucial in providing essential services in health, education, and other vital areas.

The Afghan government and QRCS also discussed the creation of a strategic aid warehouse, which would stock essential food and supplies for quick responses to natural disasters in Afghanistan. This warehouse would ensure that affected communities receive timely assistance in times of crisis. Additionally, a new project was introduced to establish, equip, and operate 10 health centers in Afghanistan over the next two years. These centers aim to provide primary health care services and improve maternal and child health for over 250,000 beneficiaries annually, especially in underserved regions.

The QRCS announced an extension of their support to a community health center in Kandahar City, providing crucial resources and training for health staff until 2027. This ongoing assistance will benefit around 46,000 individuals each year, offering basic health services and maternal and child care. Moreover, a cooperation agreement was signed with the Afghan government to enhance resilience among families impacted by conflicts and natural disasters. The project aims to improve food security and livelihoods for 800,000 families in Farah, Faryab, and Helmand provinces, with funding from the Qatar Fund for Development.

As part of their medical convoy program, the Little Hearts Project was launched in Afghanistan’s fourth phase, focusing on treating children with heart disease. Plans are also in progress to initiate the fourth phase of the Educational Support Program in remote areas of the country. These educational initiatives aim to provide access to education for children in underserved regions, contributing to their overall development and well-being.

Overall, the partnership between the Afghan government and the State of Qatar, particularly through the efforts of QRCS, highlights the commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in Afghanistan. By addressing urgent medical needs, providing essential resources during disasters, and enhancing health and educational services, these initiatives are vital in improving the well-being of Afghan citizens. The ongoing projects and future plans demonstrate a dedication to strengthening resilience and enhancing the quality of life for those most in need in the country.
