Bahraini women have made significant strides in various fields, thanks to the dedication of the Kingdom towards women’s empowerment and leadership. This commitment stems from the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Al Khalifa. The protection of women from violence and discrimination is a top priority for Bahrain, as enshrined in Article 18 of the Constitution, which guarantees equality for all citizens.

Dr Fatima Al Kooheji, the Head of the Women and Child Affairs Committee of the Shura Council, emphasized these achievements during a session on legislative developments at the “Arab Parliaments Dialogue on Regional Reviews of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action after Thirty Years” in Amman, Jordan. Bahrain’s comprehensive legislative framework ensures the rights and protection of women in all aspects of life. The event, organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and other partners, provided a platform for Arab parliaments to discuss challenges and opportunities related to women’s rights.

Dr. Al Kooheji highlighted Bahrain’s efforts in protecting women from violence, discrimination, and attacks on their rights. The country has implemented a rigorous legal framework, including the establishment of the Family Guidance Department within the Ministry of Social Development to support and protect victims of domestic violence. Bahraini law also protects women from harassment in public spaces, workplaces, and online, with increased penalties for technology-enabled crimes against women and girls. The government continues to enhance regulations to address such crimes and ensure the safety and well-being of women.

The commitment to women’s rights in Bahrain is evident in the measures taken to empower women and promote their progress and leadership. The visionary leadership of HM the King has paved the way for women to excel in various fields, with a focus on equality and protection from violence and discrimination. With a strong legislative framework and support system in place, Bahrain is dedicated to ensuring that women have equal opportunities and rights in all areas of life.

The dialogue in Amman provided an opportunity for Arab parliaments to exchange ideas and strategies for advancing women’s rights in the region. Dr. Al Kooheji’s presentation on Bahrain’s legislative developments showcased the country’s commitment to protecting the most vulnerable women and girls. By addressing common challenges and opportunities, the dialogue aimed to promote collaboration among Arab countries in improving women’s rights and creating a more inclusive and equitable society.

In conclusion, Bahrain’s achievements in women’s empowerment and leadership highlight the country’s dedication to promoting gender equality and protecting women’s rights. Through a robust legal framework and the support of visionary leaders, Bahrain has made significant progress in ensuring women have equal opportunities and protections in all areas of life. By participating in regional dialogues and sharing best practices, Bahrain continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing women’s rights and creating a more inclusive society for all.
