Al Duhail faces a critical match in the AFC Champions League today, taking on Tractor FC of Iran at the Yadegar-E-Imam Stadium in Tabriz. The Qatari side needs a positive result to bolster their chances of advancing from the group stage, currently trailing their Iranian opponents by four points. This elite clash comes as both teams prepare for the final stretch of qualifying matches.

The match, scheduled for today, pits Al Duhail against a Tractor FC team that remains unbeaten in five games this season. Al Duhail currently holds sixth place in the West Zone standings with seven points, while Tractor FC sits comfortably in third with eleven. A win for Al Duhail is essential to maintain any hope of reaching the Round of 16.

Al Duhail Battles for AFC Champions League Qualification

Al Duhail Head Coach Djamel Belmadi acknowledged the difficulty of the upcoming encounter. “It will be a difficult match against a strong opponent, as is always the case in the AFC Champions League,” Belmadi stated. He emphasized the importance of focus and a clear objective for his team to succeed.

The team’s confidence received a boost from a recent 4-2 victory against Saudi Arabian powerhouse Al Ittihad. This win demonstrated the attacking prowess of Al Duhail and provided a much-needed momentum shift in their campaign. However, Belmadi cautioned that the home advantage and fervent support for Tractor FC will present a unique challenge.

Despite the absence of key player Marco Verratti due to injury, Belmadi expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness. “Everyone knows his quality, experience, and influence on the team. We are stronger with him, but the priority now is that the rest of the squad is ready,” he said. He also downplayed the potential impact of the cold weather conditions and the anticipated passionate home crowd.

Belmadi clearly stated his team’s priority: securing a win, regardless of the margin. “What matters is winning the match. Whether it is by one goal or more is secondary. We aim to keep our balance, score goals, and avoid conceding,” he explained. Tactical flexibility within this framework will be crucial against a disciplined Tractor FC side.

Al Gharafa Seek Crucial Points

Additionally, Al Gharafa SC will host Al Wahda FC of the UAE at the Thani Bin Jassim Stadium today. Al Gharafa currently occupies ninth place in the West Zone with just three points from one win, making this match a must-win scenario. A loss would significantly diminish their chances of progressing further in the tournament.

Al Gharafa’s coach, Pedro Martinez, highlighted the team’s improved condition following the break for the FIFA Arab Cup 2025. He stated that preparations have been smooth and the squad is in better physical and technical shape. The team is targeting a victory to reignite their hopes for the Round of 16.

Meanwhile, Al Wahda arrives in Qatar having already secured their place in the knockout stage. Currently second in the standings, the UAE giants, coached by Demis Teixeira, will aim to maintain their strong form. The match is set to kick off at 9:15 PM local time.

The outcome of both matches tonight will have significant implications for the West Zone standings of the AFC Champions League. The competition for qualification remains fierce, with several teams vying for the limited spots available. The pressure is on Al Duhail and Al Gharafa to deliver results against tough opposition.

Looking ahead, the remaining group stage fixtures will be decisive. Al Duhail faces a challenging schedule, needing to capitalize on home advantage and secure points on the road. The performances of key players and tactical adjustments will be critical factors in determining their fate. The next few weeks will reveal whether these Qatari clubs can overcome the hurdles and advance to the knockout stages of the Asian Champions League.
