Abu Dhabi Airports recently announced the early reopening of Zayed International Airport’s Northern Runway (13L/31R) after a successful rehabilitation project. The project included enhancements such as runway reinforcement, resurfacing with asphalt, installation of a new ground visibility monitoring system, and upgrading to LED lighting technology. These improvements aim to enhance safety, operational precision, and environmental sustainability at the airport.

The transition to LED lighting at Zayed International Airport demonstrates Abu Dhabi Airports’ commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The upgrades to critical navigational aids like the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Runway Visual Range (RVR) systems further improve the safety and efficiency of aircraft operations, especially during adverse weather conditions. These advancements align with the airport’s goal to enhance its global standing and support long-term prosperity in the aviation sector.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), commended Abu Dhabi Airports for successfully completing the North Runway Rehabilitation Project. He highlighted the project’s reflection of the UAE’s dedication to innovation and sustainable growth in the aviation sector. Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, credited meticulous planning, stakeholder collaboration, and dedication to operational excellence for the project’s early completion.

The early reopening of the Northern Runway enables Abu Dhabi Airports to meet the increasing demand of airlines more effectively. Throughout the closure, operations at Abu Dhabi were managed via the Southern Runway as a single-runway operation, ensuring continuity and safety without disruptions. The refurbished infrastructure will support the airport in managing continuous increases in air traffic demand and optimizing airport throughput at AUH.

In conclusion, the successful completion of the Northern Runway Rehabilitation Project at Zayed International Airport represents Abu Dhabi Airports’ proactive approach towards enhancing safety, efficiency, and sustainability in aviation operations. The project’s technological advancements and focus on environmental responsibility underscore the airport’s commitment to innovation and long-term prosperity in the aviation sector. With the runway now fully operational, the airport is well-equipped to handle growing airline demand and ensure seamless daily operations for passengers and airlines. Stay updated with the latest news from Abu Dhabi Airports as they continue to strive for excellence in aviation services.
