AACO recognizes Al Baker for his aviation contributions at the 57th annual general meeting

The Arab Air Carriers’ Organization (AACO) 57th Annual General Meeting recently paid tribute to HE Akbar Al Baker, who previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways. During his tenure at Qatar Airways from 1997 to 2023, Al Baker was instrumental in strengthening and supporting AACO’s work and the aviation industry as a whole. He was first elected as a member of the AACO Executive Committee in 2011, and later served as Chairman of the Executive Committee from 2013 to 2023. Qatar Airways also hosted AACO’s AGMs in 2001, 2013, and 2021, with Al Baker chairing those meetings.

At the AACO 57th AGM, Eng. Samer Majali, Vice Chairman of Royal Jordanian and Chairman of the meeting, praised Al Baker for his leadership in chairing AACO’s General Assembly and Executive Committee. He credited Al Baker for his contributions to achieving great accomplishments and fostering cooperation and development within the aviation industry. Additionally, HE Eng. Ibrahim A. Al-Omar, Director General of Saudia and Chairman of the AACO Executive Committee, expressed his gratitude towards Al Baker for his significant impact on the development of the aviation sector. He commended Al Baker for his role in building Qatar Airways into one of the largest airlines in the world and referred to him as a dear friend and generous brother.

Abdul Wahab Teffaha, AACO Secretary General, also expressed his gratitude to HE Akbar Al Baker for his efforts in supporting the Arab Air Carriers’ Organization and advocating for the interests of its members in international forums. Al Baker’s involvement on the IATA Board of Governors and the IATA Chair Committee, as well as his leadership roles within both organizations, demonstrated his dedication to the aviation industry. His contributions have been invaluable in advancing the goals and mission of AACO and its members on a global scale.
