Oman joining the International Transport Forum (ITF) as one of its newest member nations was hailed as a positive step by a senior official from the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT). The ITF, which is a global intergovernmental organization focused on all modes of transport, offers valuable opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing among its 69 member nations. According to Hamood Musabah Al Alawi, Metro Project Manager and Head of Railways at the ministry, joining the ITF will provide Oman with access to expertise, data, and best practices in areas such as mobility, green mobility, public transport, innovation, technology, and policymaking.

Al Alawi emphasized that being part of the ITF will enable Oman to learn from advanced countries and leverage their experiences to further develop its transport and logistics sectors. Additionally, membership in such international organizations aligns with global trends and enhances a nation’s visibility and attractiveness to investors. Notably, with Oman and Saudi Arabia recently joining the ITF, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region now has a total of six member nations in the organization.

The ITF Secretary-General Young Tae Kim welcomed Oman’s inclusion as a new member, highlighting the potential for collaboration and support in achieving Oman’s Vision 2040 objectives, which prioritize the development of sustainable transportation and infrastructure. Furthermore, the ITF Annual Summit serves as a platform for crucial discussions and debates on various transport and communications topics, with more than 1,200 delegates participating in the 2024 event held in Leipzig, Germany.

As part of the ITF, Oman will have the opportunity to engage with international partners, share experiences, and seek guidance on addressing challenges in the transport sector. With a commitment to Net Zero by 2050 and ongoing transformation efforts in logistics and transport, Oman aims to position itself as a prominent player in the global transportation landscape. By leveraging the ITF’s resources and networks, Oman can accelerate its development and attract investments to fuel the growth of its transport sector.

Looking ahead, the Czech Republic is set to assume the ITF presidency after Chile, continuing the organization’s mission to foster collaboration and innovation in the transport industry. With a strong focus on sustainable practices and integrated urban development, the ITF aims to support member countries like Oman in advancing their transport systems and achieving long-term environmental goals. By actively engaging with the ITF and its diverse membership, Oman can contribute to and benefit from the collective expertise and shared knowledge in the global transport community.

In conclusion, Oman’s membership in the ITF opens up new opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and investment in the transport sector. By joining this prestigious international organization, Oman can access valuable resources, best practices, and expert guidance to advance its transportation infrastructure and sustainability goals. The ITF’s inclusive platform and diverse membership offer a unique environment for Oman to showcase its strengths, learn from global leaders, and contribute to shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.
