This year, Apple released three new Apple Watch models: the Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch SE 3, and Apple Watch Ultra 3. Whether you’re looking to upgrade your current smartwatch, purchase a holiday gift, or simply understand the differences between the options, choosing the right Apple Watch can be a challenge. This article breaks down the key features and distinctions between the Series 11 and the SE 3 to help consumers make an informed decision.

Similarities Between the Two ModelsKey Differences to Consider

With a starting price of $799, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 caters to a niche market of athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. For the majority of buyers, the choice comes down to the Apple Watch SE 3, beginning at $249, and the Apple Watch Series 11, priced from $399. Both offer a compelling suite of features, but understanding their nuances is crucial.

Comparing the Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch SE 3

Despite the price difference, the Apple Watch SE 3 delivers much of the core functionality found in the Series 11. For users prioritizing essential features like activity tracking, notifications, and basic health monitoring, the SE 3 represents an excellent value. However, the Series 11 offers several enhancements that may justify the higher cost for certain individuals.

The SE 3 received a significant upgrade from the previous generation, jumping from the S8 chip to the S10. This translates to improved performance and responsiveness. Additionally, the SE 3 now boasts an always-on display, supports fast charging, and offers enhanced crack resistance. New health features, including a wrist-temperature sensor for advanced sleep tracking and retrospective ovulation estimates, further enhance its capabilities.

While the Series 11 and Ultra 3 represent incremental improvements over their predecessors, the SE 3’s upgrade is more substantial. This closes the gap between Apple’s standard and budget smartwatches, making the SE 3 a more competitive option than ever before.

Similarities Between the Two Models

Both the Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch SE 3 share several key features. Both are powered by the S10 chip, ensuring comparable performance. They both include an always-on Retina display, providing convenient at-a-glance information. Heart health features, such as high and low heart rate notifications and irregular rhythm notifications, are also present on both models.

Furthermore, both watches support wrist flick and double tap gestures for easy interaction. Emergency SOS, fall detection, and crash detection provide crucial safety features. Both are water resistant to 50 meters, suitable for swimming, and offer comprehensive sleep tracking, including Apple’s Sleep score and temperature sensing for insights into overall well-being. Cycle tracking with retrospective ovulation estimates is also available on both devices, along with fast charging capabilities.

Key Differences to Consider

Despite the similarities, several key differences distinguish the Series 11 from the SE 3. Battery life is a notable distinction, with the Series 11 lasting up to 24 hours (28 in low-power mode) compared to the SE 3’s 18 hours (32 in low-power mode). The Series 11 also offers more advanced health features, including hypertension notifications, an electrical heart sensor for ECGs, and a Blood Oxygen app.

The display quality differs as well. The Series 11 can reach up to 2000 nits of brightness, while the SE 3 peaks at 1000 nits. The Series 11 also features a wider-angle OLED display. Physical size options also vary, with the Series 11 available in 46mm and 44mm sizes, while the SE 3 comes in 44mm and 40mm. The Series 11 is also slightly thinner than the SE 3.

Finally, the Series 11 includes a depth gauge to six meters, a water temperature sensor, a higher minimum brightness, and certified IP6X dust resistance – features not found on the SE 3. These additions cater to users with more demanding needs and active lifestyles.

Choosing the Right Apple Watch for Your Needs

The decision between the Apple Watch Series 11 and the Apple Watch SE 3 ultimately depends on individual priorities and budget. The SE 3 provides excellent value for those seeking essential smartwatch features and basic health tracking. It’s a particularly good choice for first-time buyers or younger users. However, if advanced health monitoring, longer battery life, and a brighter, larger display are critical, the Series 11 is the better option.

The introduction of the S10 chip and the always-on display in the SE 3 have significantly narrowed the gap between the two models. Consumers should carefully weigh their needs and consider whether the additional features of the Series 11 justify the higher price. The smartwatch market continues to evolve, and Apple is expected to announce the next generation of Apple Watches in Fall 2026. Future models will likely incorporate further advancements in health tracking and performance, so potential buyers may also consider waiting for the next release if they don’t require an immediate upgrade.
