Doha, Qatar – The Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) has launched the ninth edition of the Tarsheed Carnival at KAHRAMAA Awareness Park, running through January 30, 2026. This year’s carnival, themed “Consume Efficiently for a Sustainable Future,” aims to promote energy efficiency and responsible resource management throughout Qatar. The event features interactive exhibits, workshops, and entertainment focused on conservation practices.

The annual Tarsheed Carnival, organized by KAHRAMAA’s National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), is a key initiative in Qatar’s ongoing efforts to reduce its environmental footprint and achieve long-term sustainability. The carnival is free to the public and open daily, offering a platform for government entities, private sector companies, and civil society organizations to collaborate and educate citizens.

The Importance of Energy Efficiency in Qatar

Qatar, like many nations in the Gulf region, faces unique challenges related to water and energy consumption due to its arid climate and rapid population growth. According to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Qatar has been actively pursuing strategies to diversify its energy sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The Tarsheed Carnival plays a vital role in fostering a culture of conservation that supports these national goals.

Muhannad Al Yafei, Head of Community Awareness and Development at KAHRAMAA, emphasized that resource efficiency is a collective responsibility. He stated that the carnival is designed to translate sustainability concepts into practical, everyday habits for individuals, families, and institutions. This approach aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, which prioritizes environmental sustainability and responsible resource management.

Carnival Activities and Participation

The 2026 Tarsheed Carnival offers a diverse range of activities designed to engage visitors of all ages. Dedicated sections focus on clean energy technologies, environmental sustainability initiatives, and practical methods for reducing electricity and water usage. These sections aim to demonstrate how individuals can contribute to a more sustainable future through informed choices.

Interactive workshops provide hands-on learning experiences, covering topics such as recycling best practices and water-saving techniques. Additionally, the carnival features stage performances, competitions, and an awareness play that highlights the negative impacts of wasteful behaviors on the environment. These elements are intended to make learning about sustainability both enjoyable and impactful.

Numerous government and private entities are participating in the event, showcasing their commitment to sustainability. Their involvement underscores the broad-based support for KAHRAMAA’s energy conservation efforts and the growing recognition of the importance of environmental responsibility within the Qatari community. The participation of these organizations also provides visitors with access to a wide range of information and resources.

The carnival’s focus extends beyond simply reducing consumption; it also promotes the adoption of innovative technologies and practices. Exhibits demonstrate the benefits of smart home systems, energy-efficient appliances, and water-saving irrigation methods. This emphasis on technological solutions reflects Qatar’s commitment to modernizing its infrastructure and embracing sustainable development.

The success of the Tarsheed program, and events like the carnival, is measured by reductions in per capita water and electricity consumption. KAHRAMAA regularly publishes data on these metrics, demonstrating the program’s impact on national sustainability goals. The long-term effects of these initiatives are expected to contribute significantly to Qatar’s environmental resilience.

Looking ahead, KAHRAMAA will likely analyze visitor feedback and consumption data from the 2026 carnival to refine future programs and initiatives. The ongoing development of new technologies and the evolving needs of the Qatari population will continue to shape the focus of the Tarsheed program. Further announcements regarding future sustainability projects and targets are expected in the coming months.
