Doha, Qatar – The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) has launched its annual “Iftar for fasters” project for Ramadan 1447 AH, marking a significant expansion in scope and a complete transition to digital management. The initiative, designed to provide meals to those in need during the holy month, will operate at nine locations across Doha, serving over 360,000 meals. This year’s Iftar program emphasizes increased capacity, enhanced monitoring, and stronger community collaboration.

The announcement was made during a press conference on January 25, 2026, at the General Department of Awqaf, attended by ministry officials and project committee members. The project is funded through the Waqf Fund for Righteousness and Piety and aims to support workers and vulnerable populations during Ramadan. Authorities confirmed the meals will adhere to strict health and nutritional guidelines.

Expanded Iftar Program for Ramadan 2026

The “Iftar for fasters” project represents a key component of the Ministry of Endowments’ charitable efforts during Ramadan. According to the ministry, the program seeks to foster social solidarity and compassion within the community while fulfilling the conditions of charitable endowments. This year’s expansion reflects a growing need for such support, particularly among Qatar’s large workforce.

Increased Capacity and Strategic Locations

The number of Iftar tent locations has increased to nine, strategically positioned in areas with high concentrations of both residential communities and labor camps. This represents a substantial increase from previous years, allowing for broader reach and accessibility. The total capacity of over 360,000 meals throughout Ramadan demonstrates the ministry’s commitment to addressing food security for those fasting.

Additionally, the ministry has focused on ensuring the quality and safety of the meals provided. Meals will meet approved health and nutritional standards, with organized service protocols in place to ensure a dignified experience for all recipients. This focus on quality control is a key element of the program’s success.

Full Digitalization and Enhanced Monitoring

A defining feature of this year’s program is its complete digitalization. The ministry has implemented an end-to-end digital management system to streamline operations, improve transparency, and enhance monitoring capabilities. This includes digital registration for volunteers, online donation platforms, and real-time tracking of meal distribution.

However, the shift to digital management also presents challenges, including ensuring accessibility for all potential beneficiaries and addressing potential cybersecurity concerns. The ministry has stated it is working to mitigate these risks through comprehensive training and robust security measures.

Strengthened Community Partnerships

The success of the Iftar project relies heavily on collaboration with various community organizations and volunteers. The Ministry of Endowments has actively sought to strengthen these partnerships, engaging local businesses, charities, and individuals in the effort. This collaborative approach ensures a wider network of support and allows for more effective distribution of resources.

Meanwhile, the ministry is also working to raise awareness about the importance of charitable giving during Ramadan. This includes promoting the Waqf Fund for Righteousness and Piety and encouraging individuals to contribute to the charitable initiatives.

The project also aligns with Qatar’s broader national vision for social development and humanitarian aid. Qatar has a long history of supporting vulnerable populations both domestically and internationally, and this Ramadan initiative is a continuation of that commitment. The program’s focus on dignified support and community engagement reflects the country’s values.

Looking ahead, the Ministry of Endowments will monitor the implementation of the “Iftar for fasters” project throughout Ramadan, collecting data on meal distribution, beneficiary feedback, and operational efficiency. A post-Ramadan report is expected to be released, detailing the program’s impact and outlining recommendations for future improvements. The long-term sustainability of the Waqf Fund and its ability to support ongoing humanitarian assistance will be a key factor to watch in the coming years.
