Qatar’s shooting team secured a silver medal in the men’s team trap event at the Asian Shotgun Championship held in Doha this week. The competition, which concluded yesterday at the Lusail Shooting Complex, saw strong performances from several nations, highlighting the growing popularity of shotgun sports in the region. The Qatari team, comprised of Saeed Abu Sharib, Mohammed Al Rumaihi, and Angelo Scalzone, finished with a total score of 352 targets.

Kuwait took the gold medal in the men’s team trap with a score of 354, while the United Arab Emirates claimed the bronze with 351 targets. The championship featured both individual and team events for men and women, attracting top shooters from across Asia. The event served as a crucial qualifying opportunity for some athletes aiming for the upcoming Olympic Games.

Qatar Shines at Asian Shotgun Championship

The Asian Shotgun Championship is a significant event in the shooting calendar, providing a platform for athletes to showcase their skills and gain valuable international experience. This year’s competition in Doha drew considerable attention, with participants vying for top honors and Olympic qualification spots. The Lusail Shooting Complex, a state-of-the-art facility, hosted the event and was praised by competitors for its excellent conditions.

Individual Event Highlights

Beyond the team competitions, individual shooters also delivered impressive results. Pakistan’s Muhammad Farooq Nadeem achieved a remarkable feat in the men’s individual trap, winning the gold medal and setting new Asian and world records with a score of 27 out of 30 targets. Kazakhstan’s Maxim Beidarov secured the silver, and Kuwait’s Abdulrahman Al Faihan took the bronze.

In the women’s individual trap, Chinese Taipei’s Wan-Yu Liu also broke records, claiming gold with a score of 24 out of 30. Kazakhstan’s Ibragimova Ilyinova finished second, followed by China’s Shen-Yu Fan in third place. These record-breaking performances demonstrate the increasing level of competition in the sport.

Team Event Results

Kazakhstan dominated the women’s team trap event, earning the gold medal with a total of 235 points. Chinese Taipei finished closely behind to take silver with 316 points, and Kuwait secured the bronze with 315 points. The team events often showcase strategic collaboration and consistent performance under pressure.

The medal ceremonies were attended by prominent figures including Mohammed bin Yousef Al-Mana, First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, and H E Roshan Starakhan Azard, Ambassador of Sri Lanka. Jassim Shaheen Al-Sulaiti, Secretary General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation, and Obaid Manahi Al Osaimi, Secretary General of the Kuwaiti and Arab Shooting Federations, also presented awards.

The championship is set to conclude tomorrow with the highly anticipated mixed team trap competition. The outcome of this event could further solidify the standings of various nations and provide additional opportunities for athletes to qualify for international competitions. Observers will be watching to see if any further records are broken and which teams emerge victorious in the final event.
