Oman’s refining sector is experiencing significant growth, with total production reaching impressive levels by the end of November 2025. Recent data released by refineries and petroleum industries in the Sultanate reveals an overall increase of 11.4 percent in Oman oil production, reaching approximately 76.992 billion barrels compared to 69.113 billion barrels during the same period in 2024. This surge indicates a strengthening energy sector and Oman’s increasing role in the global petroleum market. The data provides a detailed breakdown of various refined products, showcasing both areas of expansion and contraction within the industry.

Significant Increase in Oman Oil Production: A Sector Overview

The substantial rise in Oman oil production is driven by increased output across several key refined products. This growth reflects ongoing investments in the nation’s refining infrastructure and a strategic focus on maximizing value from its hydrocarbon resources. The figures highlight a dynamic period for the Omani energy industry, adapting to evolving global demands and optimizing its production capabilities.

Gasoline Production Leads the Way

Specifically, the production of 91 octane gasoline saw a notable jump of 17.5 percent, totaling 15.64 billion barrels. Even more impressive was the growth in 95 octane gasoline, which increased by 21.1 percent to reach 13.182 billion barrels. These increases suggest a growing domestic and international demand for higher-quality gasoline, and Oman is well-positioned to meet that need. This also points to potential upgrades in refining technology allowing for a greater yield of these premium fuels.

Diesel and LPG Demand Fuels Growth

Gas oil (diesel) production also experienced healthy growth, climbing 11.7 percent to 31.639 billion barrels. Diesel remains a crucial fuel for transportation and industrial sectors, both within Oman and in key export markets. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production witnessed a significant boost of 14.5 percent, reaching 7.033 billion barrels, indicating a rising demand for this versatile energy source used in cooking, heating, and as a petrochemical feedstock.

Petrochemical Production Shows Strong Momentum

Beyond traditional fuels, Oman’s petrochemical sector is demonstrating considerable strength. Polypropylene production surged by an impressive 81.6 percent, reaching 327,000 tonnes. This substantial increase signals a successful expansion of petrochemical capacity and a growing contribution to the diversification of Oman’s economy. Paraxylene production also rose, albeit at a more moderate pace of 10.8 percent, reaching 535,000 tonnes. Benzene production saw a marginal growth of 0.9 percent, suggesting a more stable demand in this particular segment. This diversification into petroleum industry products is a key strategic goal for the Sultanate.

Domestic Sales and Export Trends in Omani Refined Products

The increased production is translating into shifts in both domestic sales and export activities. Analyzing these trends provides a clearer picture of where Oman’s refined products are being consumed and where the greatest growth opportunities lie.

Domestic Consumption Patterns

Gas oil sales experienced a 7.1 percent increase, reaching 13.875 billion barrels, reflecting the ongoing needs of the Omani transportation and industrial sectors. Sales of both 95 and 91 octane gasoline also rose, with 95 octane seeing a 2.1 percent increase and 91 octane a 1 percent increase. However, jet fuel sales experienced a slight decline of 3.5 percent, potentially linked to fluctuations in air travel or shifts in regional aviation fuel demand.

Export Performance Highlights Growth Areas

On the export front, the data reveals particularly strong performance in certain product categories. Exports of 95 octane gasoline surged by a remarkable 166.4 percent, reaching 1.526 billion barrels. This substantial increase indicates a growing international market for Omani gasoline and the success of export strategies. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) exports also saw a significant jump, increasing by 127.9 percent. Conversely, exports of 91 octane gasoline decreased by 15.8 percent, potentially due to a shift in production towards the higher-octane variant or changing market dynamics. Understanding these energy sector trends is crucial for future planning.

Implications and Future Outlook for Oman’s Refining Sector

The reported increase in Oman oil production and the accompanying shifts in product mix and sales patterns demonstrate a robust and evolving refining sector. The strong growth in gasoline and petrochemical production, coupled with increased LPG exports, suggests a successful strategy of diversification and value addition. While the decline in jet fuel sales and 91 octane gasoline exports warrants attention, the overall picture is overwhelmingly positive.

Looking ahead, continued investment in refining technology, strategic partnerships, and a focus on sustainable practices will be essential to maintain this momentum. Oman’s commitment to expanding its petrochemical capacity and meeting growing regional and global demand for refined products positions it as a key player in the energy landscape. Further analysis of these trends will be vital for stakeholders to make informed decisions and capitalize on emerging opportunities within the Omani refining industry. The data released by the Oman News Agency provides a valuable benchmark for tracking progress and assessing the long-term health of this critical sector.
