Doha, Qatar – Passengers utilizing Qatar’s Metrolink bus services should be aware of upcoming disruptions. Metrolink announced service adjustments for several routes on January 15th and 16th, 2026, impacting commuters across the city. These changes, detailed on their official X account, are designed to accommodate unspecified events and may require riders to alter their travel plans.

The alterations primarily affect routes serving central Doha, with temporary starting point changes and full or partial suspensions. The impacted routes include M143, M144, M138, M105, M108, and M315. Travelers relying on these connections are advised to check the latest updates before commencing their journeys to minimize potential delays.

Understanding the Metrolink Service Updates

The first phase of changes will be in effect throughout the day on January 15th and 16th, 2026. Routes M143 and M144 will both originate from alternative stations instead of the Corniche Station. Specifically, M143 will depart from Hamad Hospital Station, Exit 3, while M144 will begin its route at The White Palace Station, Exit 2.

However, more significant disruptions are scheduled for later on January 15th. From 10:00 PM on January 15th through 2:00 PM on January 16th, route M138 will be completely suspended. This is likely to affect individuals traveling to and from areas directly served by this line, necessitating alternative transportation options.

Route-Specific Adjustments During Suspension Period

Alongside the full suspension of M138, several other routes will experience modified service. Route M105 will operate from DECC Station, Exit 3, but will bypass certain intermediate stops. This suggests a streamlined service intended to maintain connectivity while minimizing disruption in other areas.

Meanwhile, route M108 will skip the Al Bidda Station entirely during the specified timeframe. Similarly, M315 will not serve the stops at the Museum of Islamic Art Park and Doha Port. These adjustments indicate a concentrated area of activity requiring the rerouting of public transportation.

Metrolink, a key component of Qatar’s integrated public transport system, aims to provide convenient and reliable connections to metro stations and key destinations. The system has been expanding in recent years to support the country’s growing population and increasing tourism. These temporary changes, while inconvenient, are likely part of managing the logistical demands of a dynamic urban environment.

The reason for these specific bus route changes has not been publicly disclosed by Metrolink or relevant Qatari authorities. It is common practice for large-scale events or infrastructure work to necessitate temporary adjustments to public transport schedules. Without official clarification, speculation remains limited to these general possibilities.

These service updates come as Qatar continues to develop its infrastructure in preparation for future events and long-term growth. The country has invested heavily in its transportation network, including the Doha Metro and the public transportation system, to reduce reliance on private vehicles and promote sustainable mobility. The Peninsula Qatar first reported on these changes.

Passengers are encouraged to stay informed about the latest Metrolink updates through official channels, including the Metrolink X account and website. Real-time information regarding bus locations and estimated arrival times is also typically available through mobile applications designed for Qatar’s public transport network. Utilizing these resources will be crucial for navigating the temporary disruptions.

Looking ahead, Metrolink has not indicated whether these changes are isolated incidents or part of a larger, ongoing adjustment plan. The duration of the disruption is clearly defined – January 15th and 16th, 2026 – but the underlying cause remains unknown. Further announcements from Metrolink are expected closer to the date, detailing the specific reasons for the changes and any potential long-term impacts on the bus services.

It remains to be seen how these adjustments will affect overall commuter patterns and whether alternative transport solutions will be implemented to mitigate the impact of the suspended and altered routes. Monitoring Metrolink’s official communications and observing traffic conditions during the affected period will be key to understanding the full extent of the disruption.
