The race will take place across a 100km course, demanding participants complete the distance within a 12-hour timeframe. Organizers unveiled the official course at the signing, showcasing six consecutive stages intended to rigorously test competitors’ physical and mental fortitude. The event aims to position Qatar as a premier destination for international athletic events.

The 2026 Samla International Race: A Test of Endurance

The Samla International Race is structured as a multi-disciplinary event, beginning with a 3km open-water swim. This is followed by a 21km run, a 22km mountain biking segment, a 4km kayaking stage, another 22km cycling segment, and concluding with a challenging 28km run to the finish line. The course is designed to highlight Qatar’s diverse terrain and natural beauty, according to the race organizers.

Key Partnerships and Sponsorships

A partnership agreement between the Samla Race, Visit Qatar, and ASICS was a central component of the ceremony. ASICS will serve as the official sportswear partner, providing apparel and equipment for the event. Additionally, several other sponsors have pledged support, contributing to a total prize pool of $300,000. These partnerships underscore a shared commitment to promoting Qatar on the global stage.

Jassim Al Mahmoud, Director of Public Relations and Communications at Visit Qatar, emphasized the alignment of the race with the organization’s strategy to promote tourism and showcase Qatar’s cultural and natural assets. He stated that the event embodies values of strength and endurance, attracting both participants and spectators. Visit Qatar’s involvement highlights the nation’s growing investment in attracting major sporting events.

Boosting Qatar’s Sports Tourism Sector

The sports tourism sector in Qatar has seen significant growth in recent years, driven by investments in world-class facilities and the hosting of major international competitions. The 2022 FIFA World Cup served as a catalyst, attracting a large influx of visitors and generating substantial economic benefits. The Samla International Race builds on this momentum, offering a unique and challenging event that appeals to a different segment of the athletic community.

However, the success of the race will depend on attracting a sufficient number of qualified participants and ensuring a smooth logistical operation. Organizers are actively promoting the event internationally and working to streamline registration and support services. The event also aims to engage local communities and provide opportunities for volunteer involvement.

Azzam Al Mannai, CEO of the Samla Race Organising Committee, noted the importance of the partnerships in enhancing organizational standards and delivering a world-class competitive experience. He expressed confidence that the event will contribute to Qatar’s reputation as a leading destination for endurance sports. The committee is focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.

Looking ahead, organizers will focus on finalizing logistical arrangements, confirming participant registrations, and implementing a comprehensive marketing campaign. The next key deadline will be the close of registration, expected in November 2025. The event’s ultimate impact on Qatar’s tourism sector and its ability to attract future international competitions remain to be seen, but initial indicators suggest a positive outlook.
