Doha, Qatar – A meeting between the Director-General of the Qatar News Agency (QNA) Ahmed bin Saeed Al Rumaihi and a delegation led by Dr. Abdulaziz Mohamed Al Horr, Director of the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took place yesterday in Doha. Discussions centered on bolstering cooperation between the two entities and exploring opportunities for enhanced collaboration in areas of shared interest, particularly regarding media training and the implementation of modern technologies. The visit underscores the importance of coordinated communication strategies within Qatar’s government institutions.

The meeting, held at QNA headquarters, focused on how the agency can support the development of diplomatic communication skills within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Dr. Al Horr’s delegation was given a detailed overview of QNA’s operations and recent advancements, with a specific emphasis on integrating new technologies, according to a statement by QNA. The discussion signals a commitment to strengthening Qatar’s international media presence.

Qatar News Agency Showcases Modernization Efforts

QNA has been undergoing significant modernization in recent years, investing heavily in infrastructure and staff training. The delegation received a technical presentation outlining these advancements, which touch all departments within the agency. This commitment reflects a broader ambition to position QNA as a leading news provider in the region and beyond.

A key area of focus has been incorporating artificial intelligence into its workflow. The agency has reportedly been examining ways to use AI for tasks ranging from news gathering and translation to content optimization. The goal is not to replace journalists, but to augment their capabilities and improve efficiency, sources indicate.

Training and Development Programs

The QNA Training Centre, which provides specialized programs for journalism and media students, was a central point of the delegation’s visit. Officials were briefed on the curriculum, designed to prepare graduates for roles within QNA and other state-level organizations. The training is intended to create a pipeline of skilled media professionals within the country.

The center’s programs cover a broad range of skills, from traditional reporting techniques to digital media production and social media management. The curriculum is continuously updated to reflect the changing landscape of the media industry and the evolving needs of Qatar’s communications sector.

Dr. Al Horr and his team expressed strong praise for QNA’s progress, specifically highlighting its successful integration of AI and other advanced media technologies. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recognizes the vital role of accurate and timely information dissemination in the conduct of diplomacy, and this collaboration will contribute to that, analysts suggest. The delegation’s commendation underscores the growing recognition of QNA’s importance as a national communications asset.

The visit also comes amid increased regional and global attention on Qatar’s media landscape. As a key player in international affairs, the country places a premium on effective communication and public diplomacy. The strengthening relationship between QNA and the Diplomatic Institute is seen as a strategic move to enhance Qatar’s narrative on the global stage. According to the ministry, this improved collaboration will involve joint workshops and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Looking ahead, QNA and the Diplomatic Institute plan to formalize their cooperation through a memorandum of understanding. The details of this agreement are currently under development, and a signing ceremony is expected within the next quarter. The implementation of joint training programs and collaborative projects will be monitored to assess their impact on the quality of media output and the effectiveness of diplomatic communications. Further developments and the specifics of the MOU remain to be seen.
