Doha, Qatar – The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs successfully concluded its annual sports tournament for Quran Teaching Centre students on December 30th, 2025. The event, held at the Ministry’s Abu Hamour football pitches from December 12th, fostered a spirit of competition and reinforced educational values among young participants. Thirty-two teams representing centers across Qatar participated in the tournament, designed to enhance student engagement with Quranic studies.

The initiative, which began earlier in December, saw robust involvement from students dedicated to memorizing and understanding the Holy Quran. According to the Ministry, the tournament’s location at the Abu Hamour pitches allowed for centralized organization and accessibility for all participating centers. This year’s event built on previous successes, aiming to broaden its reach and impact on youth development within the country.

Promoting Holistic Development Through Quranic Education

The primary goal of the tournament extended beyond athletic prowess. The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs designed the event to instill positive values like teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship within a faith-based framework. Fahd Al Mohammed, Head of the Quran and Its Sciences Section, explained that the tournament is integral to strengthening students’ connection to the Holy Book.

Enhancing Student Engagement and Well-being

The Ministry recognized the importance of balancing academic study with recreational activity. Participants benefited from lessons and lectures integrated with the sporting events, intended to reinforce faith-based and educational principles. Additionally, the tournament provided a break from routine study, fostering increased motivation and engagement with the Quran Teaching Centres.

The competition highlighted a commendable level of ethical conduct and mutual respect among the students. Observed throughout the event was a strong sense of camaraderie, fostering positive relationships between students from different centers. This collaborative spirit reinforces the broader aims of Islamic education, promoting community and understanding alongside individual learning.

The closing ceremony celebrated the winning team with the championship trophy and medals were awarded to other top performers. Distinguished players were also recognized for their commitment to both athletic achievement and moral principles, further emphasizing the tournament’s multifaceted objectives. The initiative’s focus on positive reinforcement aims to create a supportive environment for students’ ongoing Quranic journey.

The ministry intends the annual sports championship to serve as a cornerstone of youth development, fostering a cohort of well-rounded individuals grounded in faith and ethical behavior. Al Mohammed stressed the need to cultivate both the spiritual and physical sides of students, recognizing their interconnected significance. This approach seeks to prepare students for a successful and meaningful life, aligned with Islamic values.

Looking ahead, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs is expected to announce details regarding the 2026 tournament in the spring. The scale and scope of the event, as well as potential expansions to include additional sports or educational components, remain to be seen. Observers will be watching for any adjustments made based on feedback from participants and centers following the successful conclusion of this year’s installment.
