Doha, Qatar – Rafa Mujica continued his remarkable form, scoring a hat-trick to lead Al Sadd to a 3-0 victory over Al Shamal in a Qatar Stars League match held at Al Shamal Sports Club on Friday. The win significantly boosts Al Sadd’s position in the league standings as they pursue defending their championship title.

Mujica’s performance comes just days after he achieved a similar feat in the AFC Champions League Elite match against Shabab Al Ahli. This latest display of scoring prowess underscores his importance to Al Sadd’s attack and solidifies their challenge for the top spot in the league.

Mujica Shines as Al Sadd Climb the Qatar Stars League Table

The Spanish forward opened the scoring in the 18th minute, capitalizing on a well-placed through ball from teammate Roberto Firmino. He then added two more goals in the second half, finding the net in the 50th and 53rd minutes, effectively sealing the victory for Al Sadd.

Akram Afif played a crucial role in Mujica’s second goal, providing a precise low pass that the forward expertly converted. The third goal came off a touch from Mujica on a cross by Paulo Silva, which the Al Shamal goalkeeper, Babacar Seck, was unable to handle.

With this win, Al Sadd now occupies third place in the Qatar Stars League with 20 points. They have edged past Al Rayyan on goal difference and are only one point behind second-placed Al Shamal, and five points behind league leaders Al Gharafa. This tight competition at the top of the table highlights the intensity of the current season.

Umm Salal Secure Vital Win Against Al Ahli

Meanwhile, at Al Thumama Stadium, Umm Salal secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Al Ahli. Oussama Tannane initiated the scoring in the 58th minute with a powerful long-range strike.

Cristo Gonzalez followed up six minutes later, extending Umm Salal’s lead. Antonio Mance then completed the rout with another strong effort from outside the box, solidifying a much-needed win for his team.

This victory propels Umm Salal to 10th place in the standings with nine points, moving them one point ahead of Al Sailiya and two clear of the bottom-placed Al Shahania. The team’s improved performance offers a glimmer of hope as they strive to climb further up the QSL table.

Al Ahli, on the other hand, remain in ninth position with 12 points, having suffered their seventh defeat of the season. Their struggles indicate a need for improvement in the second half of the campaign. The team will likely focus on strengthening their defense and improving their goal conversion rate.

Following the match, Rafa Mujica expressed his delight with the win and his contribution to the team’s success. He emphasized the importance of the match and the team’s determination to secure a positive result.

Umm Salal’s Adil Tahif echoed this sentiment, stating that the victory was a significant boost to morale and would serve as motivation for future matches. He highlighted the team’s unity and commitment throughout the game. The positive atmosphere within both winning teams suggests a strong foundation for continued success in the Qatar football league.

The Qatar Stars League season is now past its halfway point, and the battle for the championship is intensifying. Al Gharafa currently leads the table, but Al Sadd and Al Shamal are close behind, poised to challenge for the top spot.

The upcoming matches will be crucial in determining the league’s ultimate outcome. Teams will be looking to capitalize on their strengths and address their weaknesses as they navigate the remaining fixtures. The focus will be on maintaining consistency and securing vital points to achieve their respective goals.

The next round of matches is scheduled for January 12th, with Al Gharafa facing a tough test against Al Rayyan. Al Sadd will be looking to continue their winning momentum when they take on Al Sailiya. These games, and others throughout the league, will provide further insight into the contenders for the QSL title.
