Doha, Qatar – Visit Qatar has concluded its nationwide content creation competition, ‘Qatar Through Your Lens,’ receiving an impressive 1300+ submissions. The contest invited both amateur and professional creators to share their perspectives on the country through photography and videography, aiming to boost Qatar tourism and showcase its diverse attractions. Winners are slated to be announced on January 18, 2026.

Competition Details and ThemesThe Rise of Content Creator Partnerships

The competition, which accepted entries until recently, encouraged participants to focus on six distinct themes: Qatar by Night, Beach and Coastal life, Arts and Culture, Heritage, Sports Events, and Culinary experiences. Prizes will be awarded to top entries in both the video and photo categories, totaling up to QR600,000, alongside opportunities for future creative partnerships. Details regarding the competition and its results can be found on the official Visit Qatar website.

Showcasing Qatar: The ‘Qatar Through Your Lens’ Competition

The ‘Qatar Through Your Lens’ initiative represents a growing trend in destination marketing, leveraging user-generated content to promote tourism. Rather than relying solely on professional advertising campaigns, tourism boards are increasingly recognizing the authenticity and reach of content created by visitors and residents. This approach can be particularly effective in attracting younger demographics who value peer recommendations and real-life experiences.

Competition Details and Themes

Participants were asked to submit either short videos, ranging from 30 to 60 seconds, or single photographs. The chosen themes were designed to highlight the breadth of experiences available in Qatar, from its modern urban landscape to its rich cultural traditions. Qatar’s commitment to hosting major sports events, such as the FIFA World Cup 2022, was a key focus, alongside its developing arts scene and culinary offerings.

The ‘Qatar by Night’ theme likely aimed to capture the vibrant nightlife and illuminated architecture of cities like Doha and Lusail. Similarly, ‘Beach and Coastal’ sought to showcase Qatar’s Arabian Gulf coastline and associated recreational activities. The ‘Heritage’ category provided a platform for documenting traditional Qatari life, architecture, and customs.

The Rise of Content Creator Partnerships

The inclusion of “future opportunities for creative collaboration” as part of the prize package signals a broader strategy by Visit Qatar to engage with content creators long-term. This is a common practice among tourism organizations, recognizing the value of ongoing partnerships in maintaining visibility and attracting visitors. Such collaborations can involve sponsored trips, content licensing agreements, and joint marketing campaigns.

According to industry reports, investment in influencer marketing and content creation within the travel sector has been steadily increasing. This is driven by the demonstrated return on investment, as authentic content often resonates more strongly with potential travelers than traditional advertising. The substantial prize money suggests a significant financial commitment from Visit Qatar towards furthering this type of promotion.

The competition also contributes to the development of local creative talent. By providing a platform for Qatari photographers and videographers to showcase their work, it fosters a sense of pride and encourages further participation in the country’s growing media landscape. The initiative’s impact on local creative industries will be an area to observe.

The large number of submissions – over 1300 – indicates strong interest in both the competition itself and in visually documenting Qatar. This high level of engagement is a positive sign for Visit Qatar, demonstrating the potential for user-generated content to play a significant role in its marketing efforts. The competition’s success may lead to similar initiatives in the future, potentially focusing on different aspects of Qatar tourism.

The next key date is January 18, 2026, when the winners of the ‘Qatar Through Your Lens’ competition will be announced. It remains to be seen which entries will be selected and how Visit Qatar will utilize the submitted content in its ongoing promotional campaigns. Further details regarding the winners and the subsequent use of their work are anticipated following the announcement date.
