Doha, Qatar – The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) of Qatar has announced a recall of two Belkin products – the Boost Charge USB-C PD Power Bank 20K and the Auto-Tracking Stand Pro with DockKit for iPhone – due to potential safety concerns. This Belkin recall affects units sold in Qatar and is part of the ministry’s ongoing commitment to consumer protection. The announcement, made in cooperation with Modern Home, the authorized dealer for Belkin in Qatar, urges consumers to take appropriate action.

The recalled items include the BPB002 Belkin Boost Charge USB-C PD Power Bank 20K, manufactured in China in 2021, and the MMA008 Auto-Tracking Stand Pro with DockKit for iPhone, assembled in Vietnam in 2024. According to the MOCI, the recall is a preventative measure stemming from reported risks associated with both devices. Consumers are advised to cease use of the products immediately.

Understanding the Belkin Recall and Associated Risks

The primary concern driving the power bank recall is the potential for the battery to overheat during normal operation. The MOCI stated that this overheating could create a fire hazard, posing a risk to both property and personal safety. This issue was identified through quality control measures and consumer reports, leading to the cooperative recall with Modern Home.

The Auto-Tracking Stand Pro with DockKit, while presenting a different type of risk, is also being recalled as a precaution. Details regarding the specific safety issue with this product were less detailed in the initial announcement, but the MOCI emphasized the importance of addressing potential defects promptly. It’s important for iPhone accessory users to stay informed about these announcements.

Details of the Recalled Products

The Boost Charge USB-C PD Power Bank 20K, model BPB002, is a portable charger commonly used to extend the battery life of smartphones, tablets, and laptops. These were manufactured in 2021 and distributed through Modern Home. The recall affects batch numbers that can be found on the product packaging or the power bank itself.

Similarly, the MMA008 Auto-Tracking Stand Pro with DockKit is designed for iPhone users, providing a hands-free experience for video calls and content creation, alongside charging capabilities. These units were manufactured in 2024, indicating a relatively recent production issue. The MOCI advises consumers to check the model number and manufacturing date on their device.

According to the ministry, this recall is a standard procedure when products fail to meet safety standards. The MOCI regularly collaborates with retailers and manufacturers to ensure consumer products circulating in Qatar are safe and compliant with regulations. They also monitor international product safety alerts for potential issues affecting the local market.

Modern Home is cooperating fully with the MOCI to facilitate the recall process. The company has established procedures for customers to return the affected products and receive a suitable remedy, potentially including a replacement or a full refund. Consumers are encouraged to contact Modern Home directly for specific instructions on how to participate in the recall. Modern Home’s website may offer updated information.

This type of recall, while concerning, underscores the importance of robust product safety regulations and responsive dealer networks. The swift action by the MOCI and Modern Home aims to minimize potential harm and maintain consumer confidence in the market. Similar recalls have occurred in the past with other electronics brands, emphasizing the complexities of battery technology and manufacturing processes.

The MOCI has indicated it will continue to closely monitor the recall campaign’s progress. They will work with Modern Home to ensure all affected units are removed from circulation and that consumers receive adequate support. The duration of the recall and the exact process for returns may evolve as more information becomes available. Consumers should periodically check the MOCI’s website for updates and revised guidelines. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry website is the most reliable source for the latest details.

Looking ahead, the MOCI has not specified a deadline for the Belkin power bank and stand recall. It remains to be seen how quickly Modern Home can complete the product retrieval and provide remedies to affected customers. Further announcements regarding the specific cause of the issues with each product are also anticipated, providing a more comprehensive understanding of the safety concerns.
