Sustainability Forum Middle East 2026: Charting a Course for Regional Transformation

The fourth edition of the Sustainability Forum Middle East is poised to be the most impactful yet, focusing on “Advancing Alignment, Innovation, and Implementation for Energy and Climate Transformation.” Over 400 influential figures from government, finance, industry, academia, and technology are expected to participate, fostering collaboration and accelerating the adoption of sustainable practices across the region. The forum’s timing is crucial, as the Middle East navigates the complexities of balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility.

Keynote Address: Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin on a New Climate Economy

A highlight of the event will be the keynote address delivered by H.E. Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, UN Special Envoy on Financing Sustainable Development. Dr. Mohieldin will address attendees with a speech titled “In a New Climate Economy,” drawing on his extensive 30+ year career in global finance, development, and climate diplomacy.

His insights will center on the critical need for innovation in energy systems and the transformation of capital flows to support sustainable growth. Dr. Mohieldin’s experience – including roles at the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and as Egypt’s first Minister of Investment – provides a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing regional economies. He also currently co-leads the UN Secretary-General’s Expert Group on Debt Solutions and served as the UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP27, further solidifying his position as a leading voice in the global sustainability conversation.

Regional Collaboration and National Visions

The forum will also feature a special address by H.E. Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), underscoring the importance of regional cooperation in addressing climate, energy, and competitiveness priorities. This highlights a growing understanding that collective action is essential for achieving meaningful progress.

A high-level National Vision panel, comprising ministers and senior officials, will delve into strategies for enhancing national competitiveness, building climate readiness, and fostering economic resilience. This session will be particularly valuable for understanding how individual nations are integrating sustainability into their long-term development plans. The focus on economic resilience is particularly relevant given the increasing frequency of climate-related disruptions.

Practical Workshops and Actionable Strategies

The Sustainability Forum Middle East isn’t just about discussion; it’s about driving tangible action. Practical workshops will be offered by leading organizations like KPMG, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Anthesis Group. These workshops will equip organizations with the tools and knowledge needed to integrate climate considerations into their core strategy, operations, and reporting frameworks.

These sessions will cover a broad range of topics, including climate-aligned business models, energy transition pathways, industrial decarbonisation techniques, the potential of AI and emerging technologies, and the development of carbon and biodiversity markets. Furthermore, the forum will address the crucial need for human capital development within the burgeoning green economy. This focus on practical application ensures that the forum translates into real-world impact.

Strong Partnerships Driving the Sustainability Agenda

The success of the Sustainability Forum Middle East is underpinned by strong partnerships. Lead partners SAFA and Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK) provide crucial financial support, while the UNDP serves as a strategic partner. Forum partners Alba, ASRY, BASREC, GARMCO, and AmCham Bahrain contribute valuable expertise and networks. Impact for Learning & Development is the learning partner, ensuring high-quality educational content. Media partners Arab News and Al Ayam will amplify the forum’s message, and The Butterfly Effect provides marketing support. This collaborative ecosystem demonstrates a widespread commitment to advancing sustainability throughout the region. The event’s focus on sustainable development is clear through these partnerships.

Looking Ahead: A Catalyst for a Greener Future

The 2026 Sustainability Forum Middle East represents a significant opportunity to accelerate the region’s transition towards a more sustainable future. By bringing together key stakeholders, fostering collaboration, and providing practical tools, the forum aims to drive meaningful change. The insights shared by Dr. Mohieldin and other leaders will be instrumental in shaping the region’s climate action strategies.

The forum’s emphasis on energy transition and innovative solutions positions the Middle East as a proactive player in the global effort to combat climate change. Attendees can expect a dynamic and informative experience, leaving them equipped to champion sustainability within their own organizations and contribute to a more resilient and prosperous future for the region. Registration details and further information can be found on the official forum website, encouraging proactive engagement from interested parties.
