Doha, Qatar – Jordan secured a historic 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in the semi-final of the FIFA Arab Cup 2025, held at Al-Bayt Stadium on Monday. A second-half header from Nizar Al Rashdan propelled Jordan into the final, marking a significant achievement for the national team and setting up a highly anticipated clash with Morocco. This win continues Jordan’s impressive run of five consecutive victories in the tournament.

The match, played before a crowd of approximately 63,000 spectators, saw a tense and tactical battle unfold. Jordan will now face Morocco in the final on Thursday at Lusail Stadium, coinciding with Qatar National Day celebrations. The victory represents a major step forward for Jordanian football and a chance to claim a prestigious regional title.

Jordan Reaches FIFA Arab Cup Final After Hard-Fought Win

Nizar Al Rashdan’s goal in the 66th minute proved to be the decisive moment, breaking the deadlock against a strong Saudi Arabian side managed by Hervé Renard. The goal came after a blocked initial attempt by Mahmoud Al Mardi, followed by a precise cross that Al Rashdan expertly headed into the net. Jordan demonstrated resilience and defensive organization throughout the match, particularly after taking the lead.

The first half was characterized by a cautious approach from both teams, with limited clear-cut chances created. Saudi Arabia enjoyed slightly more possession, but struggled to penetrate Jordan’s well-structured defense. A penalty appeal for a handball against Mohannad Abu Taha was reviewed by VAR but ultimately dismissed.

Team Spirit and Tribute to Injured Player

Prior to kickoff, the Jordanian players displayed a touching tribute to their injured teammate, Yazan Al Naimat, holding up his jersey in a show of solidarity. Al Naimat was ruled out of the semi-final after sustaining an injury during the quarter-final match against Iraq. This gesture highlighted the strong team spirit within the Jordanian squad.

Both teams made tactical adjustments at halftime, with substitutions aimed at injecting fresh energy and creativity into their respective attacks. However, it was Jordan who capitalized on their changes, ultimately finding the breakthrough goal.

Saudi Arabia pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages, with captain Salem Al Dawsari becoming more influential in creating opportunities. Despite their efforts, they were unable to overcome Jordan’s determined defense. A late penalty appeal by Al Dawsari was also turned down.

The match concluded with a red card issued to Saudi Arabia’s Waleed Al Ahmad in added time after a VAR review determined he had denied a clear goal-scoring opportunity. This further compounded a frustrating night for the Saudi Arabian team. The FIFA Arab Cup has showcased competitive football from across the region.

This result marks a turning point for Jordan in regional competitions, demonstrating their ability to compete with and defeat established footballing nations. The team’s consistent performance throughout the tournament, coupled with their strong defensive record, has been key to their success. The Arab Cup is seen as important preparation for future World Cup qualifying campaigns.

Looking ahead, the final against Morocco promises to be a thrilling encounter. Both teams have displayed impressive form throughout the tournament and will be eager to lift the trophy. The match will be played at the iconic Lusail Stadium, adding to the prestige of the occasion. The outcome of the tournament will likely influence team rankings and future seeding.

The final on Thursday will be a significant event for both nations and a fitting culmination to the FIFA Arab Cup 2025. Observers will be watching closely to see which team can maintain their momentum and secure the championship title. The Qatar National Day celebrations will provide a vibrant backdrop to the match.
