Kuwaiti innovators are making waves on the global stage, demonstrating the nation’s growing potential in technology and entrepreneurship. Recent successes at the IE Venture Day Madrid 2025, hosted by IE University, highlight the ingenuity of young Kuwaiti engineers and the effectiveness of programs designed to nurture their talent. This event showcased groundbreaking projects, with Kuwait securing top honors and significant recognition for its commitment to innovation and Kuwaiti innovation.

Kuwaiti Engineers Shine at IE Venture Day Madrid 2025

The IE Venture Day Madrid 2025 served as a platform for recognizing exceptional startups developed by IE University students and alumni. The event culminated in a resounding victory for Kuwait, with three engineers representing the nation and showcasing projects poised to disrupt their respective fields. The Kuwaiti delegation’s participation was facilitated by the Engineering Ideas Incubation program, a collaborative effort between the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity (SACGC) and IE University.

This program, launched in May 2025 with over 75 participants, rigorously trained and evaluated aspiring innovators, ultimately selecting three finalists to represent Kuwait at the prestigious international event. The delegation, led by Hamad Al-Aftan, Director of Scientific Innovation at SACGC, returned with accolades and a renewed sense of purpose.

Brailleiance: Empowering Visually Impaired Students Through Technology

Fatima Alenezi’s project, Brailleiance, captured the spotlight by winning the Best Global Pitch award. This innovative educational device is specifically designed to assist visually impaired and partially sighted primary school students in learning core mathematical skills through tactile technologies.

Addressing a Critical Educational Need

Alenezi explained that the primary challenge in developing Brailleiance was finding effective ways to convey complex concepts in a simple and accessible manner. Her dedication to creating a user-friendly and impactful learning tool resonated with the judges and underscored the importance of inclusive education. She dedicated her win to HH Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the people of Kuwait, expressing immense pride in representing her country on an international platform. This project exemplifies the power of tech innovation to address real-world challenges.

Beyond Brailleiance: Sustainable Solutions and AI-Powered Platforms

While Brailleiance took home the Best Global Pitch, the Kuwaiti delegation’s success didn’t stop there. Spidey TEK, a startup focused on pioneering the world’s first plant-based spider-silk production platform, secured the overall win at IE Venture Day Madrid 2025, also claiming the IE Sustainability Award. This demonstrates Kuwait’s commitment to sustainable technology and environmentally conscious solutions.

Additionally, two other promising projects were presented:

  • SPX (Dharia’a Al-Jumaa): An AI-powered platform designed to streamline furniture sourcing for design, contracting, and manufacturing professionals. Al-Jumaa aimed to leverage her expertise in AI to optimize the often-complex furniture supply chain.
  • LIVE (Ahmed Salmeen): An AI tool that assists architects, designers, and individuals in creating spaces optimized for user health, aesthetics, and lighting.

These projects showcase the diverse range of talent and innovation emerging from Kuwait.

The Impact of Collaboration and Incubation Programs

The success of the Kuwaiti delegation underscores the vital role of collaborative programs like the Engineering Ideas Incubation program. Engineers like Salmeen emphasized the program’s supportive environment and the opportunity it provided to showcase Kuwaiti talent globally.

Dr. Paris De L’Etraz, Managing Director of IE Venture Lab, lauded the Kuwaiti projects as “amazing,” while Juan Jose Guemes, Chairman of IE University’s Entrepreneurship & Innovation Center, expressed confidence in the ability of Kuwaiti innovators to attract investment. Al-Aftan echoed this sentiment, stating that the delegation’s achievement was a testament to months of hard work and the growing capabilities of Kuwaiti youth. He noted that the projects met international standards, signaling a bright future for Kuwaiti innovation in the global market.

The IE Venture Day Madrid 2025 has not only celebrated the achievements of these three engineers but has also served as a powerful demonstration of Kuwait’s burgeoning innovation ecosystem. The dedication of the SACGC, the support of IE University, and the ingenuity of these young innovators are paving the way for a future where Kuwait is recognized as a hub for technological advancement and entrepreneurial spirit.

This success story encourages aspiring innovators in Kuwait to pursue their ideas and contribute to the nation’s growing reputation for groundbreaking solutions.
