The Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF) of Oman recently commemorated SAF Day on December 11th, a significant occasion that embodies the nation’s values of sacrifice, loyalty, and dedication to progress. Nationwide Celebrations of SAF Day
The central SAF Day ceremony was held at the Said bin Sultan Naval Base, under the patronage of Salim bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism. The event saw participation from all branches of the SAF, emphasizing the strong inter-service coordination that defines Oman’s military strength. The festivities included captivating musical performances by the Joint Military Band, alongside a poignant visual presentation detailing the history of the SAF and the vital national tasks they undertake. A particularly impressive demonstration involved naval vessels from the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), supported by the Royal Army of Oman (RAO) and the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO). Adding to the spectacle, the National Free Fall Team of the RAO delivered a breathtaking parachute display, showcasing the exceptional skill and precision of its personnel. These demonstrations served as a powerful reminder of the dedication and training invested in the SAF.
Commemorative Postage Stamps and Regional Events
In a unique gesture commemorating SAF Day, the Ministry of Defense, in collaboration with Oman Post, launched the third edition of special postage stamps. This initiative reflects the Ministry’s commitment to fostering national capabilities and aligning with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, particularly within the Human and Society axis, with a focus on Education, Learning, and Scientific Research.
The celebrations weren’t confined to the capital. Separate ceremonies were held in Musandam Governorate and Dhofar Governorate, demonstrating the nationwide significance of the occasion.
Musandam Governorate Celebrations
Under the auspices of Rear Admiral Ali bin Abdullah Al Shidi, Commandant of the National Defence College, the RAFO hosted a ceremony at Khasab Air Base. The event featured displays of military skills, musical performances, and an artistic segment. A parachute jump by the RAFO Free Fall Team and a flyover by helicopters added to the excitement. An accompanying exhibition showcased modern weaponry and equipment utilized by the SAF, highlighting their preparedness for diverse national tasks.
Dhofar Governorate Celebrations
In Dhofar Governorate, the RAO organized a ceremony at the Military Review Field in Najour Sahlinout Camp, attended by Major General Khalifa bin Ali Al Siyabi, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Administrative and Financial Affairs. The ceremony commenced with a formal military salute, followed by a series of impressive military displays and skill demonstrations. These displays were designed to showcase the high morale and combat readiness of the SAF personnel, and their unwavering loyalty to the Sultanate.
The event also included a military infantry parade, operational procedure simulation competitions presented by the Sultan of Oman Artillery, and a captivating performance of the traditional Al Haboot folk art by the Firaq Forces. The RAO Military Music Band provided a stirring soundtrack with a collection of military tunes, culminating in another stunning parachute display by the Sultan of Oman Parachute Free Fall Team.

The SAF Day celebrations were attended by a distinguished gathering of ministers, undersecretaries, commanders of the SAF and other security services, retired officers, and members of the public.
