Doha, Qatar – The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), in collaboration with World Athletics and the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), has launched “Aim Beyond,” a global initiative to construct 11 state-of-the-art running tracks in underserved communities. This project, announced during a ceremony in Doha, aims to leverage the power of sport development to empower youth and foster sustainable progress internationally. The initiative builds upon Qatar’s hosting of the 2019 World Athletics Championships and seeks to extend its positive impact far beyond national borders.
The announcement follows a signed agreement between QOC Secretary General H.E. Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain and QFFD Director General Fahad Hamad Al-Sulaiti on December 6, 2023, during the Doha Forum focused on diplomacy, dialogue, and diversity. World Athletics CEO Jon Ridgeon also attended the signing event, signaling the strong partnership driving the project forward.
Expanding Access Through Sport Development
The “Aim Beyond” project will see the construction of ecologically sound and inclusive running tracks in Palestine, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, the Cook Islands, Panama, Anguilla, Dominica, Burundi, Tanzania, and Ukraine. These tracks will be designed to accommodate athletes of all abilities, reflecting a commitment to accessibility and inclusivity within athletics. According to the QOC, the tracks will serve as more than just training facilities; they are intended to be community hubs fostering social cohesion and promoting healthy lifestyles.
