Doha, Qatar – Jordan continued its impressive form with a decisive victory over Kuwait in the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, solidifying its position at the top of Group C. The win demonstrates the team’s focus despite recent qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and signals strong ambitions for success in the regional tournament. This Jordanian performance has energized fans and highlighted the growing strength of football in the nation.

The match, played in Doha, saw Jordan take an early lead with a goal from Mohannad Abu Taha in the 17th minute. While Kuwait responded with a goal of their own, Jordan ultimately prevailed, securing a crucial three points in their campaign. The final score reflected Jordan’s determination and tactical prowess.

Jordan’s World Cup Qualification Fuels Arab Cup Ambitions

The recent draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup served as a significant motivator for the Jordanian squad, according to players. Facing a challenging group that includes Argentina, the defending World Champions, has ignited a competitive spirit. However, players emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on the immediate task: winning the Arab Cup.

Abdullah Nasib, a key player for Jordan, stated after the match that the World Cup draw was “a huge motivator.” He acknowledged the excitement surrounding the prospect of facing Lionel Messi and Argentina, but stressed the team’s commitment to the Arab Cup. This dedication to the present is a key element of their strategy.

Emerging Talent and Experienced Leadership

Jordan’s success isn’t solely reliant on veteran players. The emergence of young talent, like 23-year-old Amer Jamous, is adding depth and dynamism to the team. Jamous, who earned a starting position against Kuwait, showcased his potential and contributed to the victory.

Coach Jamal Sellami’s decision to start Jamous highlights a willingness to integrate youth into the squad. Jamous himself noted the physical demands of playing consecutive matches, but also emphasized the team’s ability to close out the game with a third goal. This blend of experience and youthful energy is proving effective.

The team’s success is also attributed to a growing professional mentality within the squad. Players are emphasizing discipline and focus, recognizing that talent alone isn’t enough to achieve consistent results. This shift in attitude is a significant factor in their recent progress, alongside improved FIFA rankings.

Looking Ahead: Egypt and the Quarterfinals

Jordan currently leads Group C with six points, setting the stage for a pivotal final match against Egypt next Tuesday at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor. A win or even a draw would further solidify their position heading into the quarterfinal stage of the tournament. The team is aware of the challenges posed by Egypt, a historically strong African football nation.

The atmosphere surrounding the team is positive, fueled by the enthusiastic support of Arab fans. Jamous expressed his appreciation for the playful banter and encouragement from supporters, noting it motivates the players to perform at their best. This strong connection with the fanbase is a valuable asset.

While Jordan’s recent achievements – qualifying for the World Cup, reaching the Asian Cup final, and now leading their Arab Cup group – are impressive, maintaining this momentum will be crucial. The team’s performance against Egypt will be closely watched as they navigate the remainder of the tournament and prepare for the challenges of the 2026 World Cup. The next steps will reveal whether this golden moment for Jordanian football can continue.

The team’s continued success will also depend on managing player fatigue and maintaining a high level of football performance throughout the demanding schedule.
