Doha, Qatar – Motorists traveling towards Lusail should prepare for a temporary road closure on Wadi Al Banat street, announced by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal). The closure, impacting traffic flow at the intersection with Wadi Al Ebb street, will begin at midnight on Friday, December 5, 2025, and remain in effect until 5:00 AM on Sunday, December 7, 2025. This disruption is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements within the Al Ebb & Leabib project.

The road closure affects only traffic heading towards Lusail. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes utilizing surrounding roads and intersections, as detailed in maps released by Ashghal. This temporary inconvenience aims to facilitate essential maintenance work and enhance the overall quality of the road network in the area, contributing to long-term transportation efficiency.

Understanding the Wadi Al Banat Road Closure

The primary reason for the road closure is the application of a new asphalt wearing course. This process, according to Ashghal, is a crucial component of the Al Ebb & Leabib project (Package 3). A wearing course provides the top layer of a road surface, offering improved skid resistance, durability, and a smoother ride for vehicles.

Project Details and Scope

The Al Ebb & Leabib project is a significant undertaking designed to improve infrastructure and connectivity in the northern Doha region. The project encompasses road construction, upgrades to drainage systems, and enhancements to street lighting. It aims to support the growing population and economic development of areas like Lusail and surrounding communities.

Ashghal has been actively working on several infrastructure projects throughout Doha in preparation for major events and to accommodate the city’s rapid expansion. These projects often involve temporary traffic diversions and road closures, which are communicated to the public through official channels like Ashghal’s website and social media platforms. The authority emphasizes minimizing disruption during these periods.

However, temporary closures inevitably cause some congestion. Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra travel time. Utilizing navigation apps that provide real-time traffic updates can also help drivers identify and avoid affected areas. Alternative routes, while potentially longer, will ensure continued access to Lusail and other destinations.

Meanwhile, the timing of the closure – overnight from Friday to Sunday – suggests Ashghal is attempting to minimize impact during peak commuting hours. This strategy aims to reduce disruption to the largest number of road users. The relatively short duration of the closure, 48 hours, also indicates the work is focused and efficiently planned.

In contrast to permanent road construction, these temporary closures are a standard practice for road maintenance. Regular maintenance, such as applying a new wearing course, is essential for preserving the integrity of the road network and preventing more extensive and costly repairs in the future. This proactive approach contributes to the long-term sustainability of Qatar’s infrastructure.

Related infrastructure projects in the area, such as improvements to the Gharafa Street, are also underway. These coordinated efforts aim to create a comprehensive and efficient transportation system for the region. The ongoing development reflects Qatar’s commitment to investing in its infrastructure to support its economic and social goals.

Looking ahead, Ashghal will likely remove the barriers and reopen the affected section of Wadi Al Banat street promptly at 5:00 AM on Sunday, December 7, 2025, weather permitting. Motorists should continue to monitor Ashghal’s announcements for any potential extensions or unforeseen delays. Further phases of the Al Ebb & Leabib project may necessitate additional temporary closures in the future, so staying informed about Ashghal’s updates remains crucial for commuters.
