Doha, Qatar – The inaugural FEI Group VII Finals kicked off at Al Shaqab’s Longines Outdoor Arena yesterday, marking a significant milestone for youth equestrian sport in the Middle East and North Africa. The competition, running November 27-29, 2025, brings together the region’s top young riders in Children, Junior, and Young Rider categories. The FEI Group VII Finals represent a crucial step for many athletes aspiring to compete at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games.

Day One HighlightsLooking Ahead

Hosted by Qatar for the first time, the event features riders from eleven nations: Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Algeria, and Libya. This represents one of the most diverse and competitive lineups in the championship’s history, according to event organizers. The Finals are designed to identify and nurture emerging equestrian talent across the region.

A Landmark Event for Youth Equestrian Sport

Al Shaqab’s commitment to developing equestrian talent and raising technical standards is central to hosting the FEI Group VII Finals. Qatar’s growing role in international equestrian sport is underscored by this event, which provides a platform for young riders to gain valuable experience and exposure. The competition aims to foster a stronger equestrian community throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

Day One Highlights

The first day of competition featured four classes, including one open class and three FEI classes, testing riders’ technical skills, rhythm, and control. Mohammed Eisa Al Bukhari secured first place in the CSIYJ-A Special Two-Phase (274.2.5) – 1.20m event. Abdalla Hamad Ali Al Kirbi and Saleh Mufrrej Ali Mohamed Alkarbi rounded out the podium. Event Director Khalid Sanad Al Naimi honored all riders who completed clear rounds.

The atmosphere at the Longines Arena reflected the importance of the occasion, with strong support from spectators and officials. The competition is structured to provide a pathway for young riders to progress towards higher levels of the sport, including potential participation in the Youth Olympic Games. This focus on development is a key aspect of Al Shaqab’s long-term strategy for equestrian excellence.

Additionally, the event is expected to boost tourism and economic activity in Doha. Qatar has invested heavily in equestrian infrastructure in recent years, positioning itself as a leading destination for international competitions. This investment is intended to attract more events and further develop the country’s equestrian sector.

Looking Ahead

With two days of competition remaining, riders are preparing for the decisive rounds that will determine the 2025 Group VII champions. The focus will be on maintaining consistency and minimizing errors to secure a top position. The competition schedule includes a full slate of events at the Longines Arena today.

The outcome of the FEI Group VII Finals will likely influence national team selections for upcoming international events. Observers will be watching closely to see which riders demonstrate the greatest potential for future success. The event’s success could also lead to Qatar hosting similar championships in the future, further solidifying its position as a hub for equestrian sport. The final results and championship titles will be awarded on November 29th, and the impact on the region’s young riders remains to be seen.
