Thailand is doubling down on its efforts to attract visitors from Kuwait, recognizing the country as a key market in the Gulf region. The Royal Thai Embassy in Kuwait recently inaugurated the third edition of the Middle East Luxury Trade Meet 2025 (MLTM), where the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) unveiled its ambitious new global campaign: “Unforgettable Experiences – Healing is the New Luxury.” This signals a strategic shift towards catering to the evolving desires of discerning travelers, particularly those seeking wellness and personalized experiences.

## Kuwait: A Prime Market for Thailand Tourism

The choice of Kuwait as a central location for launching this campaign is far from accidental. According to TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Kuwait represents one of Thailand’s most established and loyal tourism sources within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Kuwaiti travelers are known for their appreciation of privacy, demand for high-end, personalized service, and a growing interest in medical and wellness tourism.

This isn’t just about leisure; it’s about a holistic travel experience. The “Healing is the New Luxury” campaign directly addresses this shift, positioning Thailand as a destination that offers rejuvenation alongside its renowned cultural attractions and hospitality. Kiatphaibool emphasized that Thailand is actively adapting its offerings to meet these specific needs, including expanding options for private villas, luxury hotels, and facilities catering to Muslim travelers.

## Significant Growth in Kuwaiti Tourist Numbers

The numbers speak for themselves. Thailand welcomed approximately 90,949 Kuwaiti visitors in 2024, a remarkable 15% increase from the previous year. This influx generated a substantial 9.67 billion baht in revenue, representing a 36% rise. These figures demonstrate the effectiveness of Thailand’s targeted approach to the Kuwaiti market and the increasing appeal of the destination.

Looking ahead, TAT is optimistic about continued growth. Projections indicate that Kuwaiti tourist arrivals will reach 100,000 in the current year and surge to 150,000 by 2026. This ambitious forecast is underpinned by several key factors, including increased direct flight availability and a growing demand for specialized travel experiences.

### Expanding Connectivity and Travel Convenience

Currently, Kuwait Airways operates seven weekly flights between Kuwait and Bangkok during the summer months, increasing to eleven flights in the winter. This robust flight schedule facilitates year-round travel and makes Thailand more accessible to Kuwaiti residents.

Furthermore, the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuwait has streamlined the visa application process with the launch of a new online Thai e-Visa system earlier this year. This platform allows applicants to submit their requests conveniently from anywhere, significantly reducing processing times and enhancing the overall travel experience. The ease of obtaining a visa is a crucial factor in attracting tourists, and this initiative demonstrates Thailand’s commitment to simplifying travel for its valued visitors.

## Focus on Wellness, Medical Tourism & Cultural Affinity

The growing demand for medical and wellness programs is a key driver of the increase in Kuwaiti visitors. Thailand has established itself as a leading hub for high-quality, affordable healthcare and rejuvenating wellness retreats. The recent “Rediscovering Health and Wellness Tourism in Thailand” event, co-hosted with Kuwait’s Ministry of Health in September, further solidified this collaboration. The event brought together prominent hospitals from both countries, fostering knowledge exchange and paving the way for expanded partnerships.

However, the relationship extends beyond healthcare. Uraiwan Courtaud, Chargée d’Affaires of the Royal Thai Embassy, highlighted the deepening cultural connection between Thailand and Kuwait. “For many of our Kuwaiti friends, Thailand is truly a second home – a place of comfort, discovery and warm hospitality,” she stated. This sentiment is reflected in the increasing popularity of Thai cuisine, with 12 Thai restaurants now operating across Kuwait, catering to both Kuwaiti nationals and expatriates.

## Kuwaiti Travelers: High Spenders and Loyal Guests

Kuwaiti tourists are not only increasing in number but are also contributing significantly to Thailand’s tourism economy. They are recognized as some of the highest-spending and most loyal visitors, typically staying an average of 16 days per trip.

Their preferences lean towards luxury accommodations, specifically five-star hotels and private villas. Crucially, they prioritize amenities that cater to their cultural and religious needs, such as halal kitchens, dedicated prayer rooms, and Arabic-speaking staff. Thailand’s tourism industry is actively responding to these demands, ensuring a comfortable and welcoming experience for Kuwaiti guests. This dedication to personalized service and cultural sensitivity is a cornerstone of Thailand’s success in attracting and retaining this valuable market.

In conclusion, the inauguration of the MLTM and the unveiling of the “Unforgettable Experiences – Healing is the New Luxury” campaign underscore Thailand’s strategic focus on attracting high-value tourists from Kuwait. With increasing flight connectivity, a streamlined e-Visa system, a growing emphasis on wellness and medical tourism, and a deep understanding of Kuwaiti traveler preferences, Thailand is well-positioned to welcome a record number of visitors from Kuwait in the coming years. The continued collaboration between the two nations promises a mutually beneficial relationship, solidifying Thailand’s position as a premier destination for Kuwaiti travelers seeking both relaxation and rejuvenation.
