Nama Water Services celebrated the inauguration of its reclaimed water supply project to agricultural areas in Al Shakhakhit, Wilayat Barka, on Thursday. The project, which cost over OMR2 million, involved laying more than 40 kilometres of pipelines to connect reclaimed water to 40 farms in the first phase. Held under the auspices of Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the inauguration ceremony took place in the Wilayat of A’Seeb.

## Enhancing Agricultural Sustainability through Reclaimed Water

The reclaimed water supply project is a significant step toward supporting the agricultural sector in Oman. By providing a reliable source of water, the project addresses the challenges faced by agricultural landowners, such as water scarcity and salinity. As of the project’s inauguration, over 100 connection requests have been received, indicating a strong demand for this service. The project’s implementation is part of Nama Water Services’ efforts to support Oman Vision 2040, focusing on environmental sustainability and enhancing water and food security.

## Project Impact and Future Expansion

The project contributes to revitalizing the agricultural economy by providing farmers with a consistent water supply, thereby enhancing crop productivity and reducing the reliance on groundwater. Additionally, it creates new job opportunities in the agricultural sector, boosting local economic growth. The project’s success is expected to pave the way for future expansion, covering the entire area between Sultan Qaboos Street and the Batinah Expressway. This expansion will further increase the availability of reclaimed water for agricultural purposes, supporting the long-term sustainability of the sector.

## Fostering Public-Private Partnerships

The reclaimed water supply project serves as an effective model for partnership between the public and private sectors in managing natural resources. By collaborating with government entities and private stakeholders, Nama Water Services demonstrates its commitment to achieving sustainable water development. This partnership is crucial in addressing the challenges faced by the agricultural sector, ensuring the efficient use of water resources, and promoting environmental sustainability.

## Introducing “Manhal Nama” – A New Identity for Reclaimed Water

During the inauguration ceremony, Nama Water Services launched the new identity for reclaimed water, “Manhal Nama” (or Nama Resource). This brand embodies the company’s vision toward achieving sustainable water development that supports life and preserves natural resources. Manhal Nama reflects the philosophy of reclaimed water as a renewable source of life, combining modern technical solutions for water reuse with environmental efficiency standards. The introduction of Manhal Nama is expected to promote awareness about the benefits of reclaimed water, encouraging its adoption in various sectors.

## Supporting Oman Vision 2040

The reclaimed water supply project aligns with Oman Vision 2040’s goals, focusing on environmental sustainability and enhancing water security. By providing a reliable source of reclaimed water, the project contributes to the country’s efforts to reduce its reliance on groundwater and promote water conservation. Moreover, it supports the development of a sustainable agricultural sector, which is crucial for achieving food security and promoting economic growth.

The inauguration of the reclaimed water supply project marks a significant milestone in Nama Water Services’ efforts to support sustainable water development in Oman. As the company continues to expand its services, it is expected to play a vital role in promoting environmental sustainability and enhancing water security in the region. With the introduction of Manhal Nama, Nama Water Services is poised to make a positive impact on the agricultural sector, supporting the country’s vision for a more sustainable future.
