The Oman-Russia Business Forum, held in Muscat, highlighted the growing economic ties between Oman and Russia, with a focus on various sectors including energy, technology, and finance. The event was organized by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and the Russian Roscongress Foundation.
## Strengthening Economic Partnerships
The forum embodied the deepening fraternal and historical relations between Oman and Russia, providing a platform to enhance joint cooperation and explore new avenues for bilateral relations. Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, noted that the event marked a significant milestone in the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The total volume of trade exchange between Oman and Russia reached $340 million by the end of 2024, marking a 62.3% increase during the period from 2020-2024.
### Growing Investment Opportunities
The number of registered companies with Russian investments in Oman surged to 197 by the end of 2024, compared to 90 in 2023, representing a 119% increase. This growth reflects the mutual trust between the business communities and the desire to expand future partnerships. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Oman also saw a significant boost, with a 12.8% increase by the end of the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.
## Diverse Sectors for Cooperation
The forum focused on various sectors, including energy, technology, communications, banking and finance, education, health, and pharmaceutical industries, as well as the aviation and space industry, trade, and consulting services. Faisal bin Abdullah Al Rowas, Chairman of the OCCI Board of Directors, emphasized that the event aimed to enhance international cooperation and expand economic partnerships. The discussions highlighted the potential for deepening the Omani-Russian dialogue in the energy and mining sectors, as well as exploring new horizons for technological partnership.
### Energy and Mining Sectors
One of the working sessions, titled “Oman and Russia: Unleashing the Potential for Trade, Economic, and Investment Cooperation,” brought together business owners and experts to discuss opportunities for collaboration. Another session, “Prospects for Deepening the Omani-Russian Dialogue in the Energy and Mining Sectors,” explored ways to strengthen cooperation in these areas. The forum also included a session on “Moscow – Oman: Digital Transformation of Cities and New Horizons for Technological Partnership,” highlighting the potential for joint initiatives in digital transformation.
## Building Future Partnerships
The event concluded with an extended networking session between Omani and Russian companies, featuring bilateral business meetings and specialized sessions for cooperation between government institutions and the private sector. Dr. Hamad Al Dhahab, Head of the Omani side in the Omani-Russian Business Council, noted that the forum represented a new step in the growing partnership between the two countries. The Omani-Russian Business Council aims to facilitate communication between the private sectors and enhance commercial and investment cooperation.
