Dubai’s Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) is expanding its Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC) to become the region’s largest purpose-built indoor exhibitions and events venue by 2031. The expansion will deliver 140,000 square metres of new event space, including 64,000 square metres of permanent exhibition halls. The first phase of the expansion is set to be completed by early 2026.

The expanded DEC will be able to accommodate up to 50,000 visitors daily and will host major events such as Gulfood Global and the World Health Expo. The venue will feature temporary pavilions connecting directly to the main halls and central plaza, with outdoor terraces and activation zones designed to enhance visitor flow and experience.

Expansion Plans and Infrastructure

The expansion forms part of a broader plan to make DEC the largest purpose-built indoor exhibitions and events venue in the region. To support the dual hosting of Gulfood Global and the World Health Expo, DWTC has partnered with the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police to implement an integrated mobility and security plan. The plan includes direct access via the Dubai Metro Red Line at Expo 2020 Station and increased train frequency during event peaks.

A dedicated express shuttle fleet of 30 buses will link DWTC and DEC, while Park & Ride facilities will be available at major metro hubs. Additionally, 80 continuous shuttle services will operate within Expo City Dubai for visitor transfers between parking zones and venues. The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has also enhanced the metro infrastructure to support the increased demand.

Smart Events Destination

Located in Expo City Dubai, DEC benefits from extensive urban infrastructure designed for large-scale events. The venue integrates high-speed digital connectivity, including 5G-readiness, advanced road networks, and significant parking capacity. The expansion also emphasizes visitor experience, combining indoor and outdoor spaces with various food and beverage options, including over 50 food trucks and premium F&B lounges.

According to reports, the new facilities will provide an immersive experience for visitors, aligning with Dubai’s push to create high-capacity event environments. The expansion is expected to enhance Dubai’s reputation as a global events hub, attracting more international exhibitions and conferences to the city.

As the expansion nears completion, the next phase is expected to begin after the 2026 events. The project’s progress will be closely watched, with the completion deadline set for 2031. The successful implementation of the integrated mobility and security plan will be crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of the expanded venue.
