The Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center (QTTSC) at Qatar University has launched the seventh edition of its Road Safety Schools Ambassadors Programme for 2026, a key initiative to promote traffic safety awareness among high school students. The programme, implemented by Mubadara for Social Impact, aims to engage students across Qatar in innovative campaigns that foster responsible road behavior.

The initiative is part of a broader effort that includes collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the National Traffic Safety Committee, the General Traffic Department, and UNESCO. The programme supports the National Traffic Safety Strategy and aligns with the Human Development Pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, according to the QTTSC.

Road Safety Awareness Through Education

The programme involves reaching out to public and private schools across Qatar in November 2025 to encourage participation. Schools are invited to confirm their involvement by November 30, 2025. The QTTSC will then conduct introductory presentations at participating schools in December 2025, outlining the programme’s objectives and highlighting road safety challenges in Qatar.

School-based competitions and road safety initiatives will run from December 1, 2025, to mid-March 2026, providing students with over three months of active engagement. This year’s edition features the AI-powered “Qatar Traffic Safety Challenge,” developed by JTA Innovation and sponsored by the same. The challenge is designed to test students’ knowledge of road safety through interactive and gamified experiences.

Innovative Approaches to Road Safety

The “Qatar Traffic Safety Challenge” platform includes road safety scenarios and feedback developed and verified by the QTTSC. This initiative transforms learning into an immersive experience, encouraging students to become “Road Safety Heroes” and embedding safe road habits. The programme builds on the success of the previous edition, where 350 students from 60 schools participated, forming 70 teams that competed with creative safety projects.

However, the programme’s impact extends beyond the competitions. By empowering youth to become active advocates for safer roads, the initiative aims to create a lasting impact on Qatar’s road safety culture. Additionally, the programme’s focus on education and awareness is expected to contribute to the objectives of the National Traffic Safety Strategy.

Enhancing Road Safety in Qatar

The Road Safety Schools Ambassadors Programme is a vital component of Qatar’s efforts to enhance road safety. With the programme’s seventh edition underway, the country is poised to continue its progress in reducing traffic-related incidents. The QTTSC’s collaboration with various stakeholders is expected to drive meaningful change in road safety awareness and behavior among young people.

As the programme progresses, the next steps will be closely watched. The participating schools will be engaging in competitions and initiatives until mid-March 2026. The outcome of these efforts is expected to be announced at an awards ceremony, likely during the Qatar CSR Summit 2026. The success of the programme will depend on the level of participation and the creativity of the students involved.

For more information on the Road Safety Schools Ambassadors Programme and how to participate, schools can visit the Qatar University website or contact the QTTSC directly.
